But, with few exceptions, the results within the first several pages were either about videos with the job seeker on camera (video resumes) or instructional videos on how to job search.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The exceptions were several results leading to web pages of my co-creators of CareerBrandVideos&#x2122;, a new kind of customized Done-For-You video system that doesn&#8217;t feature anyone on camera. (More about this below)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Clearly, using video for job search is still a novel practice, and in its early stages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Job seekers have been slow to embrace video, even though <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/top-10-executive-job-search-posts-from-2015\/\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"584\">job search<\/a> and career experts have promoted their use for many years. And a growing number of experts are saying the 2020&#8217;s will see a surge in videos for job search and personal branding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Data confirms why you need to use personal branding videos<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/news.linkedin.com\/2021\/march\/linkedin-and-microsoft-skills-commitment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">LinkedIn research<\/a>, video is a key channel for job seekers to stand out in the hiring process<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>79% of hiring managers believe that video has become more important when it comes to interacting with or vetting job candidates, and 61% of job seekers believe a recorded video could be the next iteration of the traditional cover letter.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>62% of job seekers believe sharing more about themselves, their experience and career goals on video could help them land a job. And 80% of hiring managers agree.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>59% of job seekers believe video is becoming the new norm as part of the job seeking process, and 41% have used video to stand out to recruiters and hiring managers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Job seekers feel sharing a video with hiring managers would be helpful because it allows them to better highlight their personality (57%) and showcase their true self (41%).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The following facts from various resources should further convince you to <a href=\"https:\/\/xi117.isrefer.com\/go\/videoresume\/ecbrand\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">get on board with video<\/a>: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Videos posted online rank higher in search engines (Google, LinkedIn, and others) than plain content alone. So videos do a better job of boosting your online visibility.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Videos are 10 times more likely to be shared than other content.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Video does a better job of conveying personality, promoting your personal brand and generating chemistry than plain content.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Video does a better job of vividly showcasing your subject matter expertise than plain content.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Video helps you stand out from the crowd and position yourself as someone who is up to date with technology and the new world of work.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Video gives life to your career story in a way that no resume or flat document can.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>People hire people they feel they know and like. Video helps people get to know you better than other forms of communication.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>People sourcing job candidates will Google \u201cyour name\u201d to find out about you. Video is the fastest way (sometimes in minutes) to get your name into page 1 Google search results.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p><strong><em>Start using video. Get a series of them into social media circulation soon, you\u2019ll have a leg up over candidates who are NOT using video. The things about you that make you a good leader or manager, and easy to communicate with and collaborate with. The way you operate at work and get things done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Generating chemistry is an important part of the defining and differentiating process for authentic personal branding. Giving a feel for your personality helps you generate that all-important chemistry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The thing is, you already have a brand. Your brand is your reputation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To get a handle on and communicate the unique value you offer, you need to do some digging to define the unique set of strengths, personal attributes and drivers that differentiate you from your peers and competitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/worksheets-personal-branding-and-executive-job-search\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">worksheets for personal branding and job search<\/a> will help you. These are the ones I use with my clients, to help them land the jobs they covet and deserve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Along with introspection, the true measure of your brand comes from eliciting and assimilating feedback from those who know you best. They already know what your brand is about. They know what you\u2019re the \u201cgo-to\u201d person for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Don&#8217;t worry that personal branding is the same thing as bragging. Although a picture is worth a thousand words, sometimes video is needed to convey a thorough understanding. It\u2019s the next best thing to being there in person.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>When you engage your target employers longer and more frequently, you bring more attention to your brand and unique value proposition. The employers you want to work for will take notice of you, if you use video regularly in your personal marketing plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Video has a greater impact on people than plain content. And videos posted anywhere online rank higher in Google, LinkedIn and other search engines than plain content on a digital page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>YouTube is one of the most popular places for video. When I see a \u201cfor sale\u201d sign in front of a house, I immediately go view it online. There, I can easily view the interior and get a much better idea of what that house is all about. We have come to expect to find video content to answer our questions and provide more information.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Videos give people a better sense of who you are and reinforce your brand. Video puts a face with a name and helps people know you. Using video is one more way to get people to know, like and trust you. And they\u2019ll remember your message better too!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>I frequently hear this statement, &#8216;If I could only get in front of the hiring manager, I know I could prove I\u2019m qualified.&#8217;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Well, now you can! Even before they have an opening. Your video is available anytime, anywhere for people to get a feel of what you know and who you are.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Deal-with-Video-Resumes\">What&#8217;s the Deal with Video Resumes?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I mentioned earlier that video resumes are the video style of choice for the few job seekers who use video at all. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But they have several problems, one being that they&#8217;re not well liked by hiring professionals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recruiter <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/YogaPantsRec\/status\/1565053882598068224\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Amy Miller<\/a> posted this tweet a few months ago: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>&#8220;I see some people are trying to revive the discussion around video resumes, so I just want to go on record right now that I will NEVER watch one so please don&#8217;t waste your time and effort creating one for me :)&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Job search expert <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebalancecareers.com\/tips-for-creating-a-video-resume-2064219\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Alison Doyle<\/a> reinforces that with this advice:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>&#8220;A video resume is a short video created by a candidate for employment and uploaded to the Internet (or emailed to a hiring manager) for prospective employers to review.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>A video resume describes the individual&#8217;s skills and experience and is typically used to supplement a paper resume. As with a print resume, it&#8217;s possible for the video resume to be either general or targeted toward a particular position or company.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>But, she also offers a caution about using a video resume:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>&#8220;Done poorly, it can, at best, hinder your chances of getting an interview. At worst, it can knock you out of contention and embarrass you.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Some of the problems with video resumes<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video class=\"lazyload\" controls data-src=\"https:\/\/www.careerbrandvideos.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/problems-with-video-resumes-generic.mp4\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>As you can see from the above video, video resumes are not ideal . . . and they don&#8217;t work well for most people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;ve rarely seen a video of someone speaking about their career that was professional-looking and compelling. Most people in these videos are clearly uncomfortable with being on camera, so they come off negatively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em><strong>A video focusing on your resume is likely to be dry and uninteresting. Think about it. Most paper or digital resumes are kind of lifeless and fail to generate chemistry around the job seeker. Converting such a resume into a video will probably result in a dull, ho-hum video that no one will want to watch.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Along with risking putting a poorly-done video resume into circulation online, these videos label you as &#8220;a job seeker&#8221;. Most people looking for a job can\u2019t risk having others find out. They need to keep their search under cover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And there\u2019s another problem. Once you put a video resume \u201cout there\u201d, you may not be able to retrieve it from some sites. This makes you appear to be perpetually job hunting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But let\u2019s say you have a terrific video resume. Combining that with other types of video for branding makes sense.
