Yes, if it comes from a reliable source, preferably someone who has <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a lot of experience in the careers industry<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To get you started, I\u2019ve put together some things you need to know about resumes, before you start <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/should-you-use-chatgpt-for-resume-writing-and-job-search\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">writing your own<\/a>, or <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/find-the-best-executive-resume-writer-for-you-wheres-the-value\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hire someone to do it for you<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-black-color has-text-color\"><strong>5 Things You (Probably) Don&#8217;t Know About Executive Resumes and Job Search<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. I hear this all the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The problem with this approach is that, when you\u2019re writing your personal marketing content (for your <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/10-reasons-your-executive-resume-needs-a-major-facelift\/\">executive resume<\/a>, biography, LinkedIn profile, etc.), you won\u2019t know who you\u2019re writing it for. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You won\u2019t know which specific strengths, qualities and qualifications of yours to zero in on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Being generic, to cover as many bases (or job opportunities) as possible, will probably lead to a very prolonged <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/executive-job-search-salary-compensation-negotiations\/\">job search<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Understand that your <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/what-not-to-put-in-your-c-level-executive-resume\/\">resume is a personal<\/a> marketing communication. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the main principles of marketing is to <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/7-tips-to-build-your-executive-job-search-target-companies-list\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">know your target audience<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/best-ways-and-places-to-research-your-target-employers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">understand their \u201cpain points\u201d<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then you can position yourself as their problem solver and <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/does-your-executive-resume-position-you-as-the-best-hiring-choice\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the right hiring choice<\/a>. They were in demand by recruiters, or their networks led them to new opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, they find that the job pipeline is NOT flowing. A great resume is still important, but recruiters and hiring decision makers routinely search online (particularly on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/megguiseppi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">LinkedIn<\/a>) for candidates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In fact, your entire <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/online-presence-and-personal-brand-management-5-things-to-remember\/\">online presence<\/a> is probably more important than your resume alone. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you&#8217;re networking your way into your target companies, you&#8217;ll actually SEND your resume to people. <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/does-your-online-presence-scream-dont-hire-me\/\">Your online presence<\/a> is there for all to see . . . unless you don&#8217;t have one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Make no mistake. Once you&#8217;re in the running, people will Google &#8220;your name&#8221; to find out more about you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>People sourcing candidates are more attracted to those who are employed. You\u2019ve probably had <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/how-to-find-and-connect-with-the-right-recruiters-on-linkedin\/\">recruiters reach out to you on LinkedIn<\/a> when you had a job and were not actively job hunting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The thing is, you want them to keep doing this. The Applicant Tracking System (ATS) resume black hole can get you.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP\/\/\/yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7\" data-src=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/rainbow-882859_640.jpg\" alt=\"executive resume black hole\" class=\"wp-image-7349 lazyload\" width=\"838\" height=\"629\"\/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/rainbow-882859_640.jpg\" alt=\"executive resume black hole\" class=\"wp-image-7349 lazyload\" width=\"838\" height=\"629\" srcset=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/rainbow-882859_640.jpg 640w, https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/rainbow-882859_640-150x113.jpg 150w, https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/rainbow-882859_640-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 838px) 100vw, 838px\" \/><\/noscript><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019ve found that so many <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/25-tips-to-write-an-executive-resume-for-todays-job-search\/\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"128\">executive job<\/a> seekers are completely unaware of the existence of ATS. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ATS are used on <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/use-job-boards-for-research-not-to-find-jobs\/\">job boards<\/a> AND on company websites AND by recruiters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s how it works. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your resume lands in a database, with all the other applicants, only to be called up if it contains enough of the right keywords that match the ones put into it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some, but not all recruiters will actually read every resume that comes their way. But you can&#8217;t count on all the people you send your resume to, to do that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ATS can be flawed and can even overlook the absolute best fit candidates, if those people didn\u2019t know how to structure and build an ATS-friendly resume that sails through the system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How to avoid this dilemma?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Circumvent ATS for as long as possible in the search process. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Target and network your way into specific companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That means conducting <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/guide-to-informational-interviews-for-executive-job-search\/\">informational interviews<\/a> with people at your target companies, or those who are within a few degrees of separation from them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then, by the time your resume lands in an ATS \u2013 if it ever does \u2013 you will already be a somewhat known entity within that company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Employers tend to hire people they know (and like) at least a little, over complete strangers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Read more in my post, <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/executive-resume-ats-applicant-tracking-systems-need-know\/\">Executive Resume ATS (Applicant Tracking Systems): What You Need To Know<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you\u2019re looking for an executive job or considering changing your career direction, you\u2019re thinking about executive resumes and job search.
