Some of these may have more impact if they&#8217;re handwritten notes snail-mailed: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Job search email to a networking contact<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s probably no surprise to you that <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/how-to-network-on-linkedin-like-a-pro\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">networking is a big part of executive job search<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In fact, it&#8217;s likely that a lot of networking will be needed to land a job with an employer you want to work for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That means you&#8217;ll be sending a lot of <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/how-to-connect-on-linkedin-with-people-you-dont-know-and-get-action\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">job search emails to people in your network<\/a> to ask for meetings with them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8220;Show respect and explain why you believe that person is well-positioned to help you. Emphasize their stature, reputation, or career savvy.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Highlight just what you hope to accomplish with the meeting and the potential value you offer your target employer:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8220;Use confident language: no caveats (\u201cpossibly,\u201d or \u201cmaybe\u201d), no tentative verbs (\u201cI think,\u201d \u201cI feel,\u201d or \u201cI might\u201d), and no filler words ( \u201clike.\u201d)&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Wrap it up with a next-steps action statement, such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8220;I would appreciate an in-person meeting or Zoom call some time next week, if possible.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Email after each networking meeting<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>So many job seekers neglect sending thank you&#8217;s to people who take the time to meet with them, or otherwise help them reach their career goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/thank-you-notes-executive-job-search\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">do send thank you notes<\/a>, you will be appreciated and remembered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Respond with your thank you the same day. Within hours is optimal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have a physical address, a handwritten note is wise, but an email is also good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8220;Use a simple three paragraph formula.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Open with a message of gratitude.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the middle paragraph emphasize what you have learned from your contact and how helpful the discussion was.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the closing paragraph, mention the next steps agreed upon at the meeting, whether those steps are to be taken by you or by your contact.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cover letter email message accompanying your resume<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Always take the time to write a customized cover letter email message. Some people don&#8217;t like to receive them, but you&#8217;ll never know who does and who doesn&#8217;t want them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Play it safe and include a <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/how-to-write-the-best-cover-letter-for-executive-job-search\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cover letter<\/a> that: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Opens by explaining why you believe you\u2019re a good fit for the role, <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Then underscores your strengths, and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Closes by defining what you&#8217;d like to happen next.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8220;A good cover letter <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/the-new-10-step-executive-personal-branding-worksheet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">lets your personality come through<\/a>. Use warm, energetic language. Talk about your \u201cpassion,\u201d your \u201cexcitement,\u201d your \u201cconfidence,\u201d and your \u201ccareer success.\u201d In short, be positive about what you\u2019ll bring to the employer and make the letter inspiring.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Note following up a job interview<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A thank you note immediately following <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/guide-to-executive-job-interviews-the-how-tos-whys-and-best-practices\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">an interview<\/a> is, of course, an opportunity to once again thank the people you spoke with or met in interviews.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s also an opportunity to reinforce the positive things you brought out in the interview.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And, it&#8217;s also your chance to relate important things you may have forgotten, or didn&#8217;t get the chance, to say in the interview.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Begin with a brief &#8220;thank you&#8221; along with how much you enjoyed or learned from the interview.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Emphasize how certain you are that you are right for the role.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8220;In the next paragraph talk about the reasons for your excitement and the role you see yourself playing, should you be chosen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The last paragraph is your call to action: Recap what the next steps are and your excitement about the opportunity of moving forward.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Email if you&#8217;ve been ghosted<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You&#8217;re not alone if, after an interview, you never hear back from the employer. Weeks can go by and you don&#8217;t know whether they&#8217;re still interested or they&#8217;ve hired someone else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most job seekers will tell you they&#8217;ve been ghosted by an employer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You could still be in the running, so it&#8217;s a good idea to <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/email-follow-up-how-to-get-responses-and-results\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">send them an email followup<\/a> after a week has passed. If you hear nothing after that email for, say, another week, try calling them or emailing someone else you met at the company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8220;In your correspondence, don\u2019t show any signs of impatience, anger, or even uncertainty. Don\u2019t imply that what you have already shown them is inadequate (as in, \u201cif you need anything more from me, just let me know.\u201d)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead, stay strong and project confidence. It\u2019s very possible that they do want to hire you, but there could have been a change of personnel, or the hiring process may be delayed. Remember: It\u2019s not always about you. Other factors come into play.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">&#8220;Wow, I got the job&#8221; email<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You will most likely have plenty of people in your corner who have helped you in your job search.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You should let them know, once you&#8217;ve landed a job, whether or not they were directly responsible for helping you get that particular job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Informing them keeps them from assuming you&#8217;re still looking. It&#8217;s a courtesy that should be honored.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When you don\u2019t let those who have helped you know that you\u2019ve <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/one-big-reason-youre-not-landing-the-job\/\">landed the job<\/a>, they will be disappointed in you, and probably won\u2019t want to assist you next time you\u2019re looking for work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Saying \u201cthank you,\u201d should be a no-brainer when you get that dream job. It\u2019s a win for you and a win for those who were there when you needed them.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And, if someone in your network is a <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/the-power-of-qualified-references-in-executive-job-search\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">job search reference<\/a> who is being contacted to vouch for you, you shouldn&#8217;t leave them hanging, and not knowing if they will still be contacted.
