Mark Schaefer (@markwschaefer<\/a> on Twitter), a consultant, author, and college educator, and Executive Director of Schaefer Marketing Solutions<\/a>, set out to identify the 10 best corporate blogs in the world.<\/p>\n

He slogged through the good, the bad and the blah, reviewing hundreds of corporate websites:<\/p>\n

“Amid the coal pile that is the state of corporate blogging today, I did manage to find a few diamonds that don\u2019t bore to tears with pronouncements, promotions and product announcements (the Killer P\u2019s).”<\/strong><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

His research led to 3 general observations:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. The best blogs are dominated by the tech sector.<\/li>\n
  2. Corporate blogging has evolved far beyond the idea of personal journaling.<\/li>\n
  3. There is a chasm between the adoption of blogs at large companies versus the rest of the world. A study showed that only 22% of Fortune 500 companies blog, compared to 45% of the Inc 500’s and about 80% of non-profits.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    His picks for the top 10 corporate blogs, in no particular order, with each one’s goals:<\/p>\n

    Caterpillar –\u00a0Goals: Problem-solving, community-building, loyalty<\/p>\n

    Starbucks –\u00a0Goals: New product development, engagement<\/p>\n

    Marriott<\/a> –\u00a0Goals: Customer satisfaction, sales, crisis management<\/p>\n

    Wegman’s –\u00a0Goals: Direct sales, loyalty<\/p>\n

    Manpower –\u00a0Goal: Thought leadership<\/p>\n

    General Electric<\/a> –\u00a0Goal: Brand Awareness<\/p>\n

    Fiskars –\u00a0Goals: Customer engagement, brand awareness<\/p>\n

    Southwest Airlines –\u00a0Goals: Enhance corporate image and integrate with traditional media<\/p>\n

    Patagonia<\/a> –\u00a0Goals: Compliment brand image, engage community<\/p>\n

    Whole Foods Market<\/a> –\u00a0Goals: Compliment brand image, direct sales<\/p>\n
