That makes you a passive or REACTIVE <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/one-skill-every-job-seeker-should-have\/\">job seeker<\/a>, instead of the PROACTIVE one you need to be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Or you may be misinformed \u2013 putting most of your efforts into <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/top-10-executive-job-search-posts-from-2015\/\">job search<\/a> strategies that yield the lowest return on your time invested. You\u2019re ready to put in the time and do whatever is necessary, but you don\u2019t really know what you\u2019re doing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Lazy Executive Job Search<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019re a lazy, or misinformed, <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/7-things-successful-executive-job-seekers-know\/\">executive job seeker<\/a> if:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. You skipped over the all-important first steps<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The first steps to <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/can-i-land-my-dream-executive-job-even-if-im-under-qualified\/\">land a good-fit executive job<\/a> are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/7-tips-to-build-your-executive-job-search-target-companies-list\/\">Targeting<\/a> \u2013 Identify the kind of job you want and target specific companies or organizations where you want to work, that will be a mutual good fit.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/best-ways-and-places-to-research-your-target-employers\/\">Research<\/a> \u2013 Conduct research (including <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/guide-to-informational-interviews-for-executive-job-search\/\">informational interviews<\/a>) on what current challenges or problems your target employers are facing that you can help them overcome.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/worksheets-personal-branding-and-executive-job-search\/\">Personal Branding<\/a> \u2013 Define which aspects of your personality and which of your areas of expertise combine to differentiate your unique promise of value to your target employers. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you don&#8217;t get these things under your belt first, you could easily be in for a frustratingly prolonged search.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. The first thing you did was run straight for your old resume (if you could find it) and quickly updated it<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You&#8217;re definitely a lazy executive job seeker if you merely added in your recent work experience and accomplishments to the resume you wrote 10 or more years ago. <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/what-not-to-put-in-your-c-level-executive-resume\/\">Your resume<\/a> will probably be generic and won&#8217;t hit home with anyone. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It will lack targeting and therefore it will lack focus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And an old-fashioned formatting choice can contribute to <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/tips-to-beat-ageism-in-executive-job-search-if-youre-over-50\/\">age discrimination<\/a> and make you look out of date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before writing any of your job search materials (<a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/25-tips-to-write-an-executive-resume-for-todays-job-search\/\">executive resume<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/why-is-it-so-hard-to-write-my-own-c-level-career-brand-biography\/\">biography<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/how-to-write-the-best-cover-letter-for-executive-job-search\/\">cover letters<\/a>, etc.), you need to follow the first steps outlined above.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then you&#8217;ll be ready to create personal marketing content that is designed to showcase your ROI and good-fit qualities, and resonate with your target employers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That&#8217;s the only way you&#8217;ll know what kind of information needs to be in your resume and other materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. You&#8217;re spending most of your job search time on the job boards<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You think that job search in the digital age means hitting the <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/use-job-boards-for-research-not-to-find-jobs\/\">job boards<\/a> hard because that\u2019s where all the job&nbsp;are. But you&#8217;re missing a big part of the puzzle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You don\u2019t understand that the best way to land a good fit job is to network your way into your target companies. This helps you penetrate the <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/how-to-network-into-the-goldmine-of-hidden-executive-jobs\/\">hidden, never advertised executive jobs<\/a> and provides opportunities to <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/networking-to-referral-to-hire-best-way-to-land-executive-job\/\">get employee referrals<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. You don&#8217;t want to put yourself &#8220;out there&#8221; so you don&#8217;t bother to build an online presence <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You don\u2019t understand that <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/how-to-find-executive-recruiters-specializing-in-your-niche\/\">executive recruiters<\/a> and other hiring professionals at your target companies are on LinkedIn and other social networks. If they\u2019re hanging out there looking for candidates like you, you should be, too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And, these hiring decision makers will <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/why-you-need-to-self-google-once-a-week\/\">Google &#8220;your name&#8221;<\/a> to assess you. If they find little to no search results associated with your name, you&#8217;re as good as invisible to them. Others competing for the same jobs who DO have a strong <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/does-your-online-presence-scream-dont-hire-me\/\">online presence<\/a> will be preferred. You&#8217;ll probably be quickly overlooked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/linkedin-personal-branding-executive-job-search\/\">Get started with LinkedIn<\/a>. If you do nothing else with <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/how-your-social-media-use-can-sabotage-your-executive-job-search\/\">social media<\/a>, you need to be there, leveraging all that this social network has to offer, just to keep pace with your job-seeking competitors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then get busy building a <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/does-your-online-presence-scream-dont-hire-me\/\">diverse online presence that screams &#8220;Hire me!&#8221;<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. You&#8217;ve neglected your network since the last time you looked for a job.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A lazy <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/how-to-network-into-executive-job\/\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"475\">executive job seeker only networks<\/a> when they need something from those people. You&#8217;ve been securely employed, or so you thought, so you figured you could stop networking. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You don&#8217;t realize that networking is a careerlong &#8220;give to get&#8221; endeavor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now that you\u2019re looking again, you don\u2019t have the time or inclination to re-connect. <em>It\u2019s too much work!<\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You don\u2019t know how or where to start to rebuild a vibrant network. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The solution? Be proactive with <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/how-to-build-a-powerful-executive-network\/\">purposeful networking<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">6.
