Emerson<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Emerson\u2019s sentiment is at the core of personal branding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Telling people who you truly are helps them understand your unique value better, and can accelerate your executive job search.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Defining and communicating your personal brand helps you do that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>People start the personal branding and content development process eager to be authentic<\/strong>.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>They&#8217;re revved up about working with me to define their brand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They&#8217;re excited about digging deep.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They&#8217;re anxious to uncover their&nbsp;unique set of strengths, key personal attributes, values, passions (in other words, their <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/worksheets-personal-branding-and-executive-job-search\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">personal brand<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They want to tell me all about all the qualifications that make them a good fit for their target employers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They &#8220;get it&#8221; when I explain that branding is all about differentiating their value proposition from their job seeking competitors,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They know that branding is no longer optional . . . and that <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/10-reasons-to-love-your-personal-brand\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">branding will help them<\/a>&nbsp;land the job they want.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>In the end, they&#8217;re worried about putting themselves &#8220;out there&#8221;<\/strong>.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>I create and present them with their branded job search materials \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/how-to-write-an-irresistible-c-level-executive-resume-in-10-steps\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">executive resume<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/how-to-write-a-c-level-executive-career-brand-biography\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">career biography<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/use-linkedin-wisely-in-your-executive-job-search\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LinkedIn profile<\/a>, etc. \u2013 to review, tweak and finalize, before they start using them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When the moment of truth arrives, some&nbsp;of them are resistant to being authentic . . . curiously, more often than lower level job seekers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Suddenly, when they read the rich, brand-reinforcing&nbsp;content we\u2019ve collaborated on, they&#8217;re afraid to go with it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It all feels too personal and, frankly, boastful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s not like most of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/megguiseppi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">LinkedIn profiles<\/a> and executive resumes they&#8217;ve seen for other candidates like themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apologetically, they back down from any content that conveys personality or shows who they are, and what they&#8217;re like to work with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>They&#8217;re convinced that sameness is the way to go<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>They opt for stripping away all but the generic content that could apply to just about anyone like them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They settle on sameness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They think it&#8217;s best, after all, for their job search materials to read just like the other guys&#8217;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The content they&#8217;re comfortable with is flat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>None of their personality is evident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They support this decision by stating that sameness worked for them the last time they were job hunting . . . more than ten years ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>They forget that they need to be authentic to succeed in today&#8217;s executive job search.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>They forget (or don\u2019t grasp the fact) that sameness will not help employers and hiring decision makers distinguish them from the pack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They forget why <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/think-like-an-executive-resume-branding-pro-what-is-personal-branding-really\/\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"299\">branding in executive job search<\/a> is no longer optional:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Without branding, they will have a hard time standing out from everyone else.<\/li><li>Without branding, they will have a hard time positioning and marketing their ROI (Return on Investment).<\/li><li>Without branding, they will have a hard time articulating that ROI when <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/networking-to-referral-to-hire-best-way-to-land-executive-job\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">networking<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/prepare-to-ace-brand-your-c-level-executive-job-interview\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">interviewing<\/a>.<\/li><li>Without branding, they will have a hard time landing a good fit executive job . . . trailing their competitors who DID embrace branding.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>More About Personal Branding and
