They always came to me. I don&#8217;t know what I don&#8217;t know. I need help understanding how to conduct a job search.&#8221;<\/em><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>These people are the smart ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They don&#8217;t assume that, because they heard or read some <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/9-things-to-do-right-now-to-get-your-executive-job-search-on-track\/\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"547\">things about job search<\/a>, they really know how to do it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although out of touch with the <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/7-things-successful-executive-job-seekers-know\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">new world of executive job search<\/a>, they are at least somewhat aware that it&#8217;s more difficult than ever before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They figure it won\u2019t work the way it did in the past.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Back then, they were either always in demand and easily slid from one job to another, or they were with the same company for many years. They never had to deal with a formal job search.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But they&#8217;re largely unaware of the many <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/5-things-you-probably-dont-know-about-executive-resumes-and-job-search\/\">things that factor into today&#8217;s executive job search<\/a> landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>To be fair, how can they possibly know about it, if they haven\u2019t experienced it, or it&#8217;s been so many years since they did, that things were very different then.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Interestingly, they probably ARE aware enough of what&#8217;s going on in today&#8217;s global economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>But they may not have considered how some of these things will impact their <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/todays-executive-job-search-toolkit\/\">executive job search.<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #339966;\"><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">3 Facts About Today&#8217;s Executive Job Search and How To Deal with Them<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>FACT #1 \u2013 Executive careers today are fluid and ever-changing.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>Situation \u2013<\/strong><\/em> Typically these days, <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/15-common-job-interview-questions-and-how-to-best-answer-them\/\">executives change jobs<\/a> every 3 to 5 years. Keep your job search skills honed and your career marketing materials (resume, biography, etc.) at-the-ready for your next career move. Build and monitor your online presence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>FACT #2 \u2013 Companies want (and get) the best of the best candidates.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>Situation \u2013<\/strong><\/em> U.S. corporations are challenged by steep competition in the global marketplace, and they&#8217;re straining to keep up. To stay on top and viable, they expect (and demand) the very best talent, that will deliver optimally and help them outdistance the competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Impact<\/em> \u2013<\/strong> Candidates who are perceived as adding the most value will be the ones who gain interviews, and land faster and better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Solution<\/em> \u2013<\/strong> Work on targeting and <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/personal-branding-faqs-for-executive-job-search\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">defining your personal brand<\/a>, so that you can identify and be laser-focused on employers who will be a mutual good fit for you . . . and so that you\u2019ll understand the unique value you offer them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>FACT #3 \u2013 Embrace social media in your executive job search.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>Situation \u2013<\/strong><\/em> Social media brought major advances in the way we do business and look for jobs, leading to some confusion about how to best use it in job search.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Impact<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 Too many job seekers spend too many hours a day online, scouring dozens of job boards, blasting their resume to any job that looks even remotely good, and feeling that they\u2019re working hard at job search.
