Personal branding and targeting are probably not on your mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Or maybe you need to get your resume in order fast, and you don&#8217;t have time to do the personal branding work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In my experience, many executive job seekers do just that. They dive headlong into their resumes first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They often neglect targeting and narrowing their search to several select companies. They&#8217;re trying to keep their options wide open.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And they often misunderstand the importance of <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/think-like-an-executive-resume-branding-pro-targeting\/\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"272\">personal branding and resume<\/a> branding. They dismiss it as unnecessary and frivolous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/4-reasons-you-cant-write-your-own-executive-resume\/\">Writing or updating your executive resume<\/a> first may have worked the last time you looked for a job. Things don&#8217;t work the same way now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Today&#8217;s executive job search is different<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Today&#8217;s executive <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/should-you-use-chatgpt-for-resume-writing-and-job-search\/\">job seekers face a brand new world of job search<\/a>, deeply impacted by the digital age.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If it\u2019s been some time since you changed jobs, you\u2019re now facing new challenges that didn\u2019t exist before. It just won&#8217;t hit home with them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You need to know who you\u2019re targeting and what makes you a good-fit for their current needs. Otherwise you can\u2019t <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/25-tips-to-write-an-executive-resume-for-todays-job-search\/\">build your resume<\/a> around what differentiates your unique ROI over your competitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The (somewhat) linear path for today&#8217;s executive resume writing<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1.
