They never revisit and update their LinkedIn profile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They put up a perfunctory profile years ago \u2013 <em>perhaps the last time they were job-hunting<\/em> \u2013 and promptly forgot about it, once they landed a job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They&#8217;re forgetting that their LinkedIn profile needs to&nbsp;differentiate and position them as a good-fit candidate for their current target employers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">They didn\u2019t feel they needed to use LinkedIn any more, essentially ignoring the importance of <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/how-to-network-on-linkedin-like-a-pro\/\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"237\">LinkedIn for healthy career management and ongoing networking<\/a>, even when they aren\u2019t job-hunting.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some don\u2019t even remember they HAD created a profile. I hear it all the time from job seekers. Your branded <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/megguiseppi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">LinkedIn profile<\/a> helps position you as a good fit for your target employers, <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/10-best-ways-to-build-your-personal-brand-online\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">build your personal brand online<\/a>, and expand your brand community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2. Recruiters have embraced LinkedIn as their #1 tool for referrals, candidate research and sourcing, and for&nbsp;publishing job openings. That makes LinkedIn one of the best places to be found online by recruiters and&nbsp;hiring decision makers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3. LinkedIn constantly adds new features and tools to help you advance your job search and career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4. Networking to uncover leads and stay top-of mind with people who can help you are the best ways to land&nbsp;your next great gig. LinkedIn is the most important place for professional social networking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>5. Many of the people competing for the jobs you want, with the employers you\u2019re targeting, are using <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/how-not-to-build-your-executive-network\/\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"808\">LinkedIn&nbsp;to be found and network<\/a> their way into these jobs. Just to keep pace with them, you need to do the same.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>6. Having a strong, fully fleshed out, keyword-rich LinkedIn profile boosts high-quality search results for \u201cyour&nbsp;name\u201d. Your LinkedIn profile provides critical \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/social-proof-where-online-presence-meets-personal-branding\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">social proof<\/a>\u201d corroborating the claims you\u2019ve made about yourself on paper (resume, biography, cover letters, etc.).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>So, you have a LinkedIn profile, and you know how important LinkedIn is.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/em><strong><em>But have you actually gone to your profile page lately to see what\u2019s there?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Have you done anything to update the content there \u2212 new job(s), responsibilities, achievements and contributions, training, etc.?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"mce_26\">20 Ways to Update Your LinkedIn Profile<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As you update your LinkedIn profile, always keep in mind that the content in your profile needs to position you as a good fit for your target employers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1. &nbsp;<\/strong>If you\u2019re in a job search, is all the content aligned with what makes you a good-fit candidate for your target employers?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2. &nbsp;<\/strong>Does the content reinforce <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/worksheets-personal-branding-and-executive-job-search\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">your personal brand<\/a> and differentiate your unique value to your target employers, above your competitors?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\"><strong>3. &nbsp;<\/strong>Does the content in all profile sections contain enough of the relevant keywords that will push your profile <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/deadly-linkedin-mistake-neglecting-seo-and-keywords\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">higher in LinkedIn search results<\/a>?<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">4. &nbsp;<\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Does your profile headline, in particular, contain the most important relevant keywords that recruiters and hiring decision makers will be searching to find candidates like you?<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">5. &nbsp;<\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Did you populate every applicable section, with the maximum number of characters allowed for each one (or as close as you can come)? Are your top 3 (the ones that appear without opening the whole list) the most important ones, that will matter most to your target employers? If not, re-prioritize your list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>15. &nbsp;<\/strong>Do you need to make any adjustments to Settings &amp; Privacy? Take a look at all the options there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>16. &nbsp;<\/strong>Are you using the latest profile features? New ones may have been added since the last time you looked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>17. &nbsp;<\/strong>Can you use any of the additional sections you&#8217;ll find under &#8220;Add profile section&#8221;&nbsp;\u2013 Publications, Certifications, Courses, Projects, Honors &amp; Awards, Patents, Test Scores, Languages, Organizations?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>18. &nbsp;<\/strong>Are you <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/the-value-of-blogging-your-personal-brand-on-linkedin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">publishing articles on LinkedIn&#8217;s long-form publishing platform (or&nbsp;Pulse)<\/a>, or at least commenting on other people&#8217;s Pulse articles?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>19. &nbsp;<\/strong>Did you upload <a href=\"https:\/\/xi117.isrefer.com\/go\/jobsearch\/ecbrand\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">personal branding videos<\/a> and\/or images to appropriate profile sections?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>20. &nbsp;<\/strong>Do your jobs in the Experience section include logos for the companies? Check to see if the company appears in the drop-down as you type in the name. If the company has a LinkedIn company profile, it should appear so you can add the logo there \u2013 a good visual.
