They <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/deadly-linkedin-mistake-neglecting-seo-and-keywords\/\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"504\">search online to source and assess<\/a> candidates, and rely heavily on LinkedIn to find candidates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The cost of social recruiting is minimal (compared to <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/7-things-successful-executive-job-seekers-know\/\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"505\">posting on job boards<\/a>) and opens them to a much larger pool of potential candidates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Do executive job seekers even need a resume anymore?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>So, if you have a <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/strong-online-presence-to-compete\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">strong online presence<\/a>, with a robust LinkedIn profile (and other online profiles, personal website, social media activity, etc.), why do you need a resume at all?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First of all, lose the mindset that <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/find-the-best-executive-resume-writer-for-you-where-and-how-to-search\/\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"404\">LinkedIn is an online resume<\/a>. If it ever was, it\u2019s not any more. There\u2019s a lot more going on at LinkedIn \u2013 social branding, networking, curating content, etc. \u2013 than the ability to publish your career history online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For another thing, you can only have one <a data-wpil-monitor-id=\"6\" href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/executive-resume-linkedin-profile-biography-whats-the-difference\/\">LinkedIn profile<\/a>, but you can (and should) have several resumes, customized for each of the employers you\u2019re targeting, based on what makes you a good hiring choice for them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/does-my-linkedin-profile-really-need-a-photo\/\">LinkedIn profile needs<\/a> to be somewhat more generic so it will appeal to a wider audience than just one employer. Obviously, you can\u2019t customize your LinkedIn profile for each target company, but you can indicate your job-type and industry preference. And a strong LinkedIn profile will showcase your personal brand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Your resume shines, in particular, when you\u2019re actively networking your way into the companies you\u2019re targeting. To hit home with people, you\u2019ll customize your resume (as much as possible) for each target company, and send it to select people at, or associated with, each company. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unless you post your <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/use-job-boards-for-research-not-to-find-jobs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">resume on job boards<\/a>, which isn&#8217;t a great idea, only the people you send it to will see your resume. Not so with your LinkedIn profile. It&#8217;s there for the whole world to see.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3 other reasons why a LinkedIn profile alone won&#8217;t do. You still need a resume.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Sensitive Information<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There may be certain sensitive information about your current and previous <a data-wpil-monitor-id=\"507\" href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/cfo-executive-resume-employment-gap-is-volunteering-really-a-job\/\">employers that you can\u2019t put<\/a> online, but you CAN put in the resume you\u2019ll privately send to select people. These are people at your target companies you&#8217;re hoping to <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/networking-to-referral-to-hire-best-way-to-land-executive-job\/\">get referrals from<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Interviewing<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>During the interview process, you should bring several hard copies of your resume (along with other relevant <a data-wpil-monitor-id=\"427\" href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/find-the-best-executive-resume-writer-for-you-what-questions-to-ask\/\">job search<\/a> materials) to pass out to everyone involved. Many people find it easier to review a document on paper than on a screen. This courtesy will be appreciated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Resume Database\/Applicant Tracking System (ATS)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Human resources, at each target company, and <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/c-level-executive-resume-length-one-two-or-three-pages\/\">executive recruiters will probably request a copy of your resume<\/a> for their database or ATS. You&#8217;ll need a separate, barely formatted&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/executive-resume-ats-applicant-tracking-systems-need-know\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ATS-friendly version of your resume<\/a> for this purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">An old-fashioned resume strategy that still works<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The little-used strategy these days of mailing a hard copy of your <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/do-cover-letters-really-matter-in-executive-job-search\/\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"506\">resume with covering letter<\/a> is a powerful NEW differentiating tactic to capture attention and perhaps an interview, because so few people do it any more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Try snail mailing your resume and customized cover letter, sending it flat, unfolded in a 9 x 12 envelope. The larger envelope will be noticed more than standard #10 envelopes, and probably will be opened first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So don\u2019t give up on a paper and digital resume yet . . . or maybe ever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The key, as always, for an interview-generating executive resume<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Immediately capture attention above the fold.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Match <\/span>your promise of value<span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\"> with specific current needs of your target employers.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Demonstrate your good-fit qualities and strengths through clear examples of past contributions, using <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/how-c-a-r-storytelling-gives-executive-resume-branding-zing\/\">storytelling<\/a>, with value-driven metrics whenever possible, or before-and-after details.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Generate chemistry with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/worksheets-personal-branding-and-executive-job-search\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">personal branding<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pull it all together, and write an <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/how-to-write-an-irresistible-c-level-executive-resume-in-10-steps\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">irresistible executive resume<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong style=\"font-size: 1.17em; line-height: 1.5em;\">More About Executive Resumes and LinkedIn<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/7-linkedin-things-you-should-do-but-probably-dont\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">7 LinkedIn Things You Should Do . . .
