If you&#8217;re over 50, chances are that some of the job seekers competing against you will be younger<\/span><i style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\"> . . . perhaps by as much as 20-30 years.<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">One way to be on an even par with them is to demonstrate to employers that you&#8217;re as up-to-date and savvy as they are. If they&#8217;re embracing personal branding in their career marketing materials and job search, shouldn&#8217;t you do it too?<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>When you understand what branding truly is, you&#8217;ll understand why it knows no age barriers. <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><strong><em>Personal branding is all about defining, differentiating and positioning the unique value you offer your target employers over those competing against you.<\/em><\/strong><em> <\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">With so many qualified competitors in the job market today, landing a job requires broader knowledge of the job search landscape itself.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">It requires a better understanding of your own qualifying skill sets, strengths, and personal attributes. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">More than ever, you need to generate chemistry when you speak and write about the value you offer.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And it&#8217;s more important than ever to infuse a sense of who you are and how you operate in your supporting materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Branding helps you do these things.<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, how do you take advantage of personal branding to position yourself as a best-fit candidate and good hiring choice in today\u2019s job search?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Put the pedal to the metal. Do the initial personal branding work:<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Use my <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/the-new-10-step-executive-personal-branding-worksheet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Personal Branding Worksheet (opens in a new tab)\">Personal Branding Worksheet<\/a> to get on track with your brand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\"><strong>1.&nbsp; Know what you want and which employers to target.<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Get clear on what kind of job or work you want, and <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"which companies and organizations (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/7-tips-to-build-your-executive-job-search-target-companies-list\/\" target=\"_blank\">which companies and organizations<\/a> will provide you the opportunities you\u2019re looking for. These will be your target employers.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\"><strong>2.&nbsp; Research your target employers.<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Conduct <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"extensive company and industry research (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/best-ways-and-places-to-research-your-target-employers\/\" target=\"_blank\">extensive company and industry research<\/a> to learn what these employers\u2019 current needs are.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\"><strong>3.&nbsp; How will you help them?<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Determine how you are uniquely qualified to help them meet specific current needs. Also, identify which people in those companies you\u2019re going to network with.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\"><strong>4.&nbsp; Who are your competitors?<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Determine who your competition in the marketplace is and what differentiates you from them. What do you offer that no one else does, in terms of benefits to your target employers?<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\"><strong>5.&nbsp; What makes you a good fit for your target employers?<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Define what characteristics make up your unique personal brand (values, passions, core strengths, personal attributes, etc.). Back that up by getting feedback from those around you . . . at work, at home, and in the marketplace.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\"><strong>6.&nbsp; Write content that positions you as the right hiring choice.<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Develop <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"brand-reinforcing content (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/how-to-build-personal-brand-content-for-executive-job-search\/\" target=\"_blank\">brand-reinforcing content<\/a> for your personal marketing materials (resume, biography, and other materials) designed to generate chemistry and resonate with your target employers.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\"><strong>7.&nbsp; Build your personal brand online.<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Move your brand communications materials online to LinkedIn and other social media, and work on building a diverse, vibrant online presence. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\"><strong>8.&nbsp; Get ready for job interviews.<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Rely on your research and content development to help you prepare to speak intelligently about your brand and promise of value when you <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/power-pose-to-ace-executive-job-interviews\/\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"877\">interview for jobs<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\"><strong>9.&nbsp; Go strong on purposeful networking.<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Put your online and offline brand communications to work in all your <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/how-to-network-into-executive-job\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">networking efforts<\/a>. Work on circumventing the gatekeepers at your target companies. Connect directly <\/span>with the key hiring decision makers and other employees, where they hang out online and offline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\"><strong>10.&nbsp; Don&#8217;t neglect your network, once you land a job.<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Once you land a job, don&#8217;t forget about your network.
