Having an online presence may be the last thing on your mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even though you&#8217;ve heard that social networking and online presence are important, you don&#8217;t think that&#8217;s for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maybe this is what you&#8217;re thinking . . .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u201cI don\u2019t have time for social networks, and I don\u2019t like the idea of having an online presence and putting myself \u2018out there\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you ignore your <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/10-best-ways-to-build-your-personal-brand-online\/\" target=\"_blank\">online presence and social networks<\/a> when you\u2019re job-hunting, you&#8217;re making a big mistake. You need to be visible and at least somewhat active online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Otherwise, you may never be found by the very people you need to be smack dab in front of.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If your <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/the-online-safety-and-privacy-dilemma-in-executive-job-search\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">executive online<\/a> presence is non-existent or minimal, you will appear to be out of date with the new world of work. Executives candidates need to demonstrate that they&#8217;re social media savvy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Social recruiting (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/ways-executive-recruiters-assess-candidates-social-media\/\" target=\"_blank\">Social recruiting<\/a> is now the norm. <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/how-to-find-executive-recruiters-specializing-in-your-niche\/\">Executive recruiters<\/a> and your target employers\u2019 hiring decision makers use social media\/social networks to source and assess candidates. <em>If you&#8217;re not on these networks, how will these people find you?<\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beyond findability, a strong online presence is important to attract executive recruiters and other hiring professionals. They&#8217;re looking for social proof. They want evidence supporting the claims made in candidate\u2019s career documents (resume, biography, etc.) and when networking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Google &#8220;your name&#8221; and see what you find.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If your search yields little to no results providing social proof, you\u2019ll likely be passed over for someone who has a vibrant, diverse online footprint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just to keep pace with your competitors, build a complete, value-driven LinkedIn profile. Then work on building some decent search results for your name. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Some ways to build your online presence:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Get busy on <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/3-ways-to-make-your-online-networking-count\/\">social networks<\/a> (LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc.).<\/li><li>Set up an Amazon (and\/or other online booksellers) profile and write book reviews on relevant publications.<\/li><li>Publish articles online.<\/li><li>Comment on relevant blogs and LinkedIn updates.<\/li><li>Post updates on LinkedIn.<\/li><li>Contribute posts to relevant blogs.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the best ways to consistently build quality web pages associated with your name is to start your own blog. If you can&#8217;t do that, work on supplanting the bad results with good ones.
