The strategies that will work best for you may vary from the ones I outline here, depending upon your own situation, <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/can-i-land-my-dream-executive-job-even-if-im-under-qualified\/\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"277\">executive job target<\/a>, and other circumstances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also note that the information-mining and content writing I describe throughout the series also apply to <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/linkedin-personal-branding-executive-job-search\/\">writing your LinkedIn profile<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Executive job search targeting<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Don\u2019t even think about starting to <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/7-deadly-sins-of-executive-resume-writing\/\">write your resume<\/a>, until you know who will be reading it and what they&#8217;re looking for in candidates. You first have to prepare to <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/commonsense-executive-job-search-what-you-dont-do-can-hurt-you\/\">put yourself in their shoes<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When you launch your job search with a <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/7-tips-to-build-your-executive-job-search-target-companies-list\/\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"278\">list of at least 10 good-fit target companies<\/a> or organizations (more is better) \u2013 each of which you\u2019ll research \u2013 you\u2019re on your way to landing that good-fit job faster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s all about having in depth information about your target companies and industry, augmented by any <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/guide-to-informational-interviews-for-executive-job-search\/\">informational interviews<\/a> you can get with employees at those companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Along with responding to job postings, you want to network your way into the <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/how-to-network-into-the-goldmine-of-hidden-executive-jobs\/\">&#8220;hidden&#8221; jobs at your target companies<\/a>. For this, you need ammunition. You need to <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/3-reasons-i-wont-connect-with-you-on-linkedin\/\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"279\">know who to connect with and what to say<\/a> to them about you and their company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The hidden executive job market is those jobs that are never advertised, and never show up on job boards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They&#8217;re known about internally at those companies, perhaps by only a few.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They may be quietly, but actively sourcing and <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/ways-executive-recruiters-assess-candidates-social-media\/\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"280\">assessing candidates<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You may not realize that many executive jobs \u2013<em> especially for c-suite and many senior-level executives<\/em> \u2013 are found only through networking and positioning yourself for these hidden jobs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The perfect job for you may never be <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/use-job-boards-for-research-not-to-find-jobs\/\">posted on a job board<\/a> or anywhere else! It may only exist in the hidden job market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Avoiding the Applicant Tracking System (ATS) conundrum<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Do you know about the <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/executive-resume-ats-applicant-tracking-systems-need-know\/\">existence of ATS<\/a>?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Due to the high volume of resumes received by employers for jobs advertised on job boards and elsewhere, for more than 20 years, they\u2019ve been using data tracking systems to parse information in resumes.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When you send or post your resume in response to advertised jobs, it may or may not be initially read by humans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If a recruiter or other hiring professional does review it when it first comes in, you may be contacted for an interview.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Otherwise, and at some point, your resume will land in a database with an Applicant Tracking System that matches jobs to candidates based on specific keywords. It will be called up when your resume fits the bill for a job they&#8217;re trying to fill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If your <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/what-not-to-put-in-your-c-level-executive-resume\/\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"281\">resume lacks enough of the right keywords<\/a>, in the right places, it may never be called up for you to be considered for specific jobs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Or, if your resume is not formatted in a way that ATS can access the information fully, it may not be called up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most of your time should be spent in networking your way into jobs, whether or not you&#8217;ve responded to a job posting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With this strategy, you may be able to circumvent, at least for a time, your target companies&#8217; gatekeepers (that is, human resources and recruiters) and their ATS, and get your resume directly into the hands of hiring decision makers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your resume may ultimately land in ATS, but human eyeballs will already have seen it, and your viability will already have been assessed. Hopefully, you\u2019ll be placed on the <em>\u201cmust interview\u201d<\/em> list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Executive job search research<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Your mission is to identify the challenges facing each of your target companies, that you are uniquely qualified to help them with. In other words, you want to determine what makes you a good fit for specific needs of theirs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And your market intelligence work will help you with due diligence.
