I&#8217;m surprised by how many make this big LinkedIn mistake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sure, they all at least have a presence on LinkedIn. However they usually have only a minimal profile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Too many of them have very little content in the many profile <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/help-linkedin-skills-endorsements-mess\/\">sections LinkedIn<\/a> provides. And the content that IS there, tends to be generic and doesn&#8217;t distinguish them from their competitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3 Reasons a Sparse, Anemic Profile Is a Deadly LinkedIn Mistake<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. &nbsp;Personal Branding<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Your LinkedIn Profile is an ideal place to <a aria-label=\"build and communicate your personal brand (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/free-ebook-smart-personal-branding-with-linkedin-for-executive-job-search\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">build and communicate your personal brand<\/a>. You&#8217;ll need plenty of brand-reinforcing content to accomplish that. Therefore, <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/deadly-linkedin-mistake-neglecting-seo-and-keywords\/\">neglecting personal branding is a big LinkedIn mistake<\/a>. It&#8217;s also a big missed opportunity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/what-is-personal-branding-do-i-need-a-personal-brand-for-job-search\/\">Do you really need personal branding<\/a> in your LinkedIn profile? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you think you don&#8217;t need it, you probably don&#8217;t understand what <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/what-personal-branding-is-not\/\">personal branding<\/a> is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s the best way to differentiate the unique value you offer the employers you&#8217;re targeting, by syncing your hard skills (or areas of expertise) with your &#8220;softer&#8221; skills (or personality).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s how you help people <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/ways-executive-recruiters-assess-candidates-social-media\/\">assessing you as a candidate<\/a> get a feel for how you operate on the job, communicate and lead people, and how you get things done that benefit your employer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Branding helps them see you as a <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/does-your-executive-resume-position-you-as-the-best-hiring-choice\/\">good hiring choice<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, yes, you definitely need personal branding in your LinkedIn profile and all of your other personal marketing materials (<a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/25-tips-to-write-an-executive-resume-for-todays-job-search\/\">executive resume<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/why-is-it-so-hard-to-write-my-own-c-level-career-brand-biography\/\">biography<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/how-to-write-the-best-cover-letter-for-executive-job-search\/\">cover letters<\/a>, etc.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/deadly-linkedin-mistake-generic-short-summary-section\/\">LinkedIn About section<\/a> and other <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/brand-yourself-in-the-5-long-linkedin-profile-sections\/\">longer, narrative sections<\/a> are the best places on the profile to get your personal brand in there, using <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/how-c-a-r-storytelling-gives-executive-resume-branding-zing\/\">storytelling<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">2.&nbsp; Obsolescence and Age Discrimination<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you&#8217;re not active on social media or <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/3-ways-to-make-your-online-networking-count\/\">social networking<\/a> sites, your status online may be invisible, or close to it. People assessing you won&#8217;t find enough information about you to reinforce your viability as a candidate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just as important, a lack of social media activity makes you look obsolete in today&#8217;s digitally-driven world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/tips-to-beat-ageism-in-executive-job-search-if-youre-over-50\/\">Age discrimination is a major challenge for executive job seekers<\/a>. If you&#8217;re an <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/who-is-an-executive\/\">executive<\/a> over 50, you may come up against it.
