href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/worksheets-personal-branding-and-executive-job-search\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">worksheets for personal branding and executive job career accomplishments that will be most relevant to your target employers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Zero in on critical contributions you made that were the most valuable to past employers, and that will best align with how you will help your target employers meet specific current needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your \u201cstories\u201d will provide clear, brand-supporting evidence in <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/dont-play-it-too-safe-with-your-executive-resume\/\">your executive resume<\/a> of how you tackle and overcome challenges, bring benefits to employers, and make things happen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Illuminate these accomplishments using the <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/how-c-a-r-storytelling-gives-executive-resume-branding-zing\/\">C-A-R (Challenge \u2013 Actions \u2013 Results)<\/a> or the S-T-A-R (Situation \u2013 Task \u2013 Actions \u2013 Results) exercise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">You may not have room in your resume for all your stories. Keep the rest ready for interviewing and\/or use them in a separate <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/CEO-Global-Operations-Leadership-Profile1-1.pdf\">Leadership Initiatives Profile<\/a> (see example).<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong style=\"font-size: 1em; line-height: 1.5em;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Link vibrant branding to your value proposition<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Showcase the monetized value you\u2019re offering. Build in proof (with figures, percentages, and dollar amounts, when possible) that you have a history of impacting bottom line and will do so for your next employer too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Based on your C-A-Rs work, craft several achievement statements that will send a strong message.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For best impact, introduce the contribution with the standout result(s) first, then concisely explain how you got there, <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/keywords-in-job-search-how-important-are-they\/\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"322\">including relevant keywords<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here&#8217;s one such C-A-Rs story that will certainly hit home:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cGenerated $7 million year-over-year incremental margin by standardizing yield improvement with simple, sequenced initiatives. Everyone involved knew what, when and how to address margin improvement.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>For various reasons, not all of your achievements can be anchored to dollars, in which case using percentages may be an option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If so, indicate how you improved processes, communications, team performance, etc. Try framing this as a before-and-after comparison of how well things were running once your solutions were introduced, to how it was before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Again, lead your achievement statements with the high-impact results first:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cReduced turnover 50% and improved metrics by innovating value-added staff models to incentivize and engage everyone in the mission.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have no percentage or dollar amount improvements that you can use, a simple before-and-after comparison of how you improved operations or processes should do the trick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong style=\"font-size: 1em; line-height: 1.5em;\">Add a stand-alone value-driven brand statement to your executive resume<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Although your brand should be evident throughout your resume, a designated brand statement placed at the top of <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/what-not-to-put-in-your-c-level-executive-resume\/\">your resume<\/a>, in itself, is a powerful differentiating visual feature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It should vividly announce what you\u2019re offering and how you\u2019re different from others who do the same work. A dramatic element like this will immediately draw in the reader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/elevate-your-executive-resume-from-bland-to-brand\/\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"439\">personal brand<\/a> statement is not a string of keywords and generic claims such as this one for a senior healthcare generalist consultant:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/who-is-an-executive\/\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"323\">&#8220;Senior executive<\/a> with extensive experience developing and managing quality organizations, and leading complex quality upgrade projects within the healthcare industry.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>That statement really says next to nothing about that person. It could apply to almost anyone like him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Would reading it compel you want to talk to him?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How about this one instead?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>&#8220;An open-door, empathetic leader, I\u2019m a project and operations guy in healthcare who finds the right strategy to get things done, ensures the right people are in the room and expertly navigates ambiguity.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Always remember that <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/ignore-the-hype-what-authentic-personal-branding-is-and-is-not\/\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"324\">authentic branding has personality<\/a> and generates chemistry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>Fashion a statement of no more than 3 lines that:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Captures your style,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Comes from your own voice,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Has a colloquial feel . . . something you&#8217;d actually be comfortable saying to people out loud, and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Lays out your brand attributes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Just as you are unique, your brand statement should be unique to you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">If you complete all the exercises above (including the worksheets), you\u2019re nearly finished with the information-mining part of the executive <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/7-things-i-learned-about-resume-writing-that-changed-everything\/\">resume writing<\/a> process.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the final two parts of this series, I\u2019ll show you how to pull all the pieces together and actually write your <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/my-executive-resume-is-too-long-what-to-do\/\">executive resume<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>More About Personal Branding and Executive Resume Writing<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/the-new-10-step-executive-personal-branding-worksheet\/\">THE Personal Branding Worksheet<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/how-to-write-an-irresistible-c-level-executive-resume-in-10-steps\/\">How to Write An Irresistible Executive Resume in 10 Steps<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/5-reasons-why-your-executive-resume-is-not-working\/\">5 Reasons Why Your Executive Resume Is Not Working<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/how-to-deal-with-employment-gaps-in-your-resume-and-linkedin-profile\/\">How to Deal With Employment Gaps in Your Resume and LinkedIn Profile<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/executive-resume-experts-weigh-in-on-best-resume-writing-practices\/\">Executive Resume Experts Weigh in on Best Resume Writing Practices<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Defining your personal brand and getting it into your executive resume and other job search personal marketing materials (LinkedIn profile, bio, cover letters, etc.) is no longer optional.
