You can send free InMails directly (and privately) to Group members, no matter what your <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/how-many-linkedin-connections-are-good-for-executive-job-search\/\">LinkedIn connection<\/a> status. But there are limits, as noted in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/help\/linkedin\/answer\/a552485\">LinkedIn Help pages<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These free InMails can be used to reach out to people at your target employers, as well as others who can help you reach your career goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/how-to-find-executive-recruiters-specializing-in-your-niche\/\">Executive recruiters<\/a>, who rely heavily on LinkedIn to source candidates, also belong to various Groups. When you both belong to the same Group, you already have something in common. A Group InMail from you puts you ahead of candidates who send them a generic InMail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And when you&#8217;re a fellow Group member, you&#8217;re more likely to be initially contacted by recruiters, especially if you\u2019ve been actively participating and building credibility as a subject matter expert. You&#8217;re that much easier to interact with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">LinkedIn Groups Have Improved<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For some time Groups were stagnant, not doing much for anyone. Not many people were using them. I heard plenty of talk that LinkedIn was going to shut them down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Andrew Hutchinson said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.socialmediatoday.com\/news\/linkedin-launches-new-linkedin-groups-experience\/532009\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Social Media Today<\/a> article:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em><strong>&#8220;They became useless, spam-filled, link-drop forums, where professionals would go to try and spruik their own wares, as opposed to actively engaging.&#8221;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Then LinkedIn rolled out &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.linkedin.com\/2018\/september\/10\/unveiling-a-new-linkedin-groups-experience-a-shared-space-to-build-community\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the new LinkedIn Groups experience<\/a>&#8221; based on feedback from Groups members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stating that they&#8217;ve &#8220;<em>rebuilt Groups from the ground up, making them available right in the main LinkedIn website and app<\/em>&#8220;, Group conversations are now more in the forefront.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now you can communicate with your professional communities easier with things like the ability to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Record and share videos<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Message people from anywhere onsite<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Determine whether your connections are online<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>New Group features include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Add video captions to give more context<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Share quotes from articles to spark conversations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Save posts as drafts to share when you\u2019re ready<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>See translations of posts to stay in touch with your global connections<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Easily access the content you\u2019ve created<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Navigate to your groups more easily<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Keep the conversation going from your LinkedIn Feed<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Easily discover new groups that match your interests<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the changes I really like is having Group conversations pop up right within my main LinkedIn feed, instead of having to navigate to a separate tab for that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to Use LinkedIn Groups<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>At first, just look around and get a feel for how that Group operates. Then:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Regularly share good information by starting new discussions. Post relevant blog posts and articles you\u2019ve come across, or those that you&#8217;ve written.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add a few brief thoughts of your own that reinforce your Subject Matter Expertise (SME).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Check out existing discussions and add your own SME-reinforcing comments.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Always respond to any comments others make about your contributions, as quickly as possible.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Carefully proofread any of your comments before you post. Along with showcasing your knowledge, you\u2019re also demonstrating your communication skills.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to Find the Right LinkedIn Groups To Join<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>LinkedIn allows you to be a member of up to 100 Groups, at this writing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Check out general <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/help\/linkedin\/answer\/a544801\">limits for other aspects of LinkedIn Groups<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over time, expect to leave some Groups and join others, depending upon their relevance to your job search and career goals at the time. Stay away from Groups with only a few members. Look, instead, for those with lots of members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Functionality on LinkedIn can change in an instant. So instead of laying out step by step instructions here on using <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/5-deadly-linkedin-mistakes\/\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"253\">LinkedIn Groups<\/a>, I refer you to LinkedIn Help, which gives you up-to-date info. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/help\/linkedin\/answer\/a540824\">Help pages<\/a>, you&#8217;ll find various topics to optimize your Groups experience, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Find and join a LinkedIn group<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Post content in LinkedIn groups feed<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Change the group display logo on your profile<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contribute as a group member best practices<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Visibility and impact of your social activity in groups<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Connect with group members<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Send, receive, and manage message requests<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also create your own LinkedIn Group and build up membership with like-minded people. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You&#8217;ll be the owner of any group you create, and you can also assign other members to be owners and group managers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Go to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/help\/linkedin\/answer\/a540601\">LinkedIn Help<\/a> for instructions on how to create your own Group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">IMPORTANT !!!
