If you haven&#8217;t done it recently, this is a good time to refresh your personal brand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For many of us, it&#8217;s a time to reflect back, while planning forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Why not take stock of your personal brand . . . while you&#8217;re working on those New Year&#8217;s resolutions you&#8217;re determined to keep this time around.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For career health and fulfillment it&#8217;s wise to revisit <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/21-ways-your-executive-brand-drives-your-career\/\">your personal brand<\/a> each year, whether or not an executive job search is looming in front of you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why you need to refresh your personal brand<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If the value you offer has changed or grown significantly, you probably need to refresh your brand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You may be planning to <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/personal-branding-and-executive-job-search-books\/executive-branding-job-search-ebook\/\">dive into a job search<\/a> in earnest in the new year. Or maybe you\u2019re already in the thick of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But even if job search is not on the horizon, you never know when your job may be pulled out from under you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And you never know when a new job opportunity (internally or externally) may come your way. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You may suddenly need to impress someone, like <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/why-the-right-executive-recruiters-ignore-your-linkedin-profile-and-you\/\">a recruiter or hiring decision maker<\/a>, who asks for up-to-date information about you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And there you&#8217;ll be, scrambling at the last minute to pull together <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/what-not-to-put-in-your-c-level-executive-resume\/\">your resume<\/a>, LinkedIn profile and other materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You may know what it&#8217;s like to tackle a task as important as that with a time-crunch hanging over you. That\u2019s an awful lot of last minute pressure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Have you revisited your personal brand lately?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When was the <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/when-was-the-last-time-you-updated-your-linkedin-profile\/\">last time<\/a> you took stock of the career accomplishments that have impacted your brand reputation?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Have you been keeping track of what you did for your employer(s) over the past year (or years) that most benefitted them?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Optimally, it\u2019s best to record your career progression and achievements as they happen, while the compelling details are still fresh in your mind and easy to flesh out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But, if you\u2019re like most people, you never get around to it. Time gets away from you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You need to always be at-the-ready, knowing your brand and unique value to the kinds of employers you want to work for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No job is permanent these days. Unfortunately, a pink slip can come along at any time, and there you are, in a job search, terribly unprepared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s no time like the present to get cracking on preparing yourself, just in case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whether you\u2019re focusing on a move within your current company or looking elsewhere, remember this: the <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/7-tips-to-build-your-executive-job-search-target-companies-list\/\">employers you&#8217;re targeting<\/a>, and how you will be able to help them, will impact your new brand messaging and content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With your brand refresh, your resume, LinkedIn profile and all your other personal marketing communications will probably have to be adjusted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How to Refresh Your Personal Brand<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Questions to help you determine whether you need a brand refresh:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Did my brand reputation change over the past year?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Am I targeting a different kind of employer and\/or different kind of job now?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have I become the \u201cgo to\u201d person for new areas of expertise?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What value do I now offer in the marketplace?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What ROI (Return on Investment) do I offer that my job-seeking competitors may not?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Which driving strengths and personality traits of mine are now particularly important?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The first steps with any <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/how-and-why-personal-branding-works\/\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"562\">career branding work<\/a> is identifying which employers (or which kind of employers) you will target, and then research each one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You need to determine which current pressing needs of theirs you\u2019re uniquely qualified to help them meet. Then you need to do the digging-deep personal branding work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My worksheets will help you with <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/worksheets-personal-branding-and-executive-job-search\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">targeting, research and personal branding<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An essential exercise in both the brand-refresh process and job search strategy is cataloging your recent career accomplishments and contributions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Everyone should make note of this information, whether or not a career transition is in their near future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some find it helpful to create a &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/the-kitchen-sink-c-level-executive-resume\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">kitchen sink&#8221; resume<\/a>, that houses everything about your career, from the beginning. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You&#8217;ll add to it with new accomplishments, career milestones, advancements, etc., and draw from the information, as needed. Having a complete career history like this also helps boost your confidence in the value you offer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What did you do for your employer this year?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Make a list of the things you did for your employer(s) that most benefited them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The things that positively impacted their bottom line \u2013 saving money, increasing profits and market share, improving processes and\/or productivity, expanding service offerings, improving communications, turning around failing processes\/operations, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How do those contributions translate to the value you now offer your current or next employer?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you weren\u2019t keeping track over the past year, get to work on your list now, while these accomplishments are still fairly fresh in your mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The kinds of contributions to employers that will be important<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of these come from a LinkedIn post by resume writer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/posts\/adriennetom_resume-jobsearch-hiringandpromotion-activity-6998283841236852736-gI2n\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Adrienne Tom<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Improving communications across your team(s) and company-wide<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reducing inefficiencies<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stretching limited resources<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Introducing new processes, procedures and best practices<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Taking complex information and summarizing it in a way that made decision-making easier<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Saving the company money or time<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Meeting or exceeding a company goal<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Taking a stressful solution and making it less so<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Overcoming challenges you and the company faced. What were the results that benefited the company?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Suggesting initiatives to make the company \u201cgreener\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Negotiating a lucrative new contract<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sourcing a cost-saving new vendor<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Introducing new processes, procedures and best practices<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Leading or being part of the recruiting and hiring process<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Being a mentor and helping others progress in their careers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Connecting with new people who brought in business for your employer<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Personal achievements that matter<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Recent work or career achievements you are most proud of<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Personal achievements that were most significant to your employer(s)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Getting a promotion<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reaching a career milestone<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Earning certifications or awards<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Joining new professional associations and\/or contributing to existing ones<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Publishing relevant articles, white papers, blog posts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Volunteering in your community<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Completing special training or gaining any relevant new skills<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Taking advantage of professional development \u2013 seminars, webinars, attending conferences<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What should you do with all this new personal brand information?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Update your <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/how-to-write-an-irresistible-c-level-executive-resume-in-10-steps\/\" target=\"_blank\">resume<\/a>, <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/how-to-write-a-c-level-executive-career-brand-biography\/\" target=\"_blank\">biography<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/linkedin-personal-branding-executive-job-search\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">LinkedIn profile<\/a> and other personal marketing materials with content that will resonate with whatever employers you\u2019re targeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Keep these materials at-the-ready in case you\u2019re suddenly laid off and find yourself job hunting, or a juicy new opportunity comes your way . . . either internally or externally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes, this is a lot of work to do. But you\u2019ll be thankful you\u2019ve done it, especially if you have to suddenly swing into action and find a new job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another major benefit to you. Reminding yourself of your valuable contributions and personal achievements is a HUGE ego boost.
