Working hard at it over the years, I\u2019ve learned how to help my clients leverage their LinkedIn personal brand for job search. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the same time, I&#8217;ve learned how to use LinkedIn to build my own personal brand and business. In fact, most of my clients find me through LinkedIn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Running a successful job search is very similar to running a successful business. Therefore, <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/megguiseppi\" target=\"_blank\">LinkedIn<\/a> is just as important to you (<em>the job seeker<\/em>) as it is to me (<em>the business owner<\/em>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>In both cases, you need to:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Determine who your target audience is \u2013 for job search, that means target employers,<\/li><li>Define your personal brand \u2013 what makes you unique, valuable and a good-fit for your target audience, or employers,<\/li><li>Communicate and market those good-fit qualities across various channels,<\/li><li>Connect and network with your target audience, or people at your target companies.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Unfortunately, many job-hunting LinkedIn members have a \u201c<em>build it and forget it<\/em>\u201d mentality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They put up a bare-bones profile, maybe years ago. They never came back to complete it, update it or take full advantage of all that LinkedIn offers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Below you&#8217;ll see a few strategies that I rely on to build my <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/personal-brand-buzzkill-snarky-comments-on-linkedin-pulse\/\">LinkedIn personal brand<\/a> and promote my business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These same strategies will help you increase your LinkedIn profile traffic, <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/the-new-10-step-executive-personal-branding-worksheet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"build your personal brand (opens in a new tab)\">build your personal brand<\/a>, position yourself as a good-fit candidate and help you land a job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3 Insider LinkedIn Tips to Build Your Personal Brand<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. Build Personal SEO by Fully Populating Your LinkedIn Profile<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A robust, fully-fleshed out profile, with each applicable section filled, will build your personal brand visibility and boost traffic to your <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/does-my-linkedin-profile-really-need-a-photo\/\">LinkedIn profile<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>Why is plenty of LinkedIn profile content so important?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recruiters and employers search LinkedIn to identify and assess candidates using relevant keywords and phrases. These keywords usually represent your \u201chard\u201d skills or areas of expertise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>More content = More relevant keywords = Better personal SEO (Search Engine Optimization) or visibility<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most people know enough to put at least some information in the Summary\/About, Experience and Education sections. But take a look at all the other sections available to you and use each one you can. Do your best to use all the allowed space for content. Build Personal Brand Equity by Surprising Someone With a LinkedIn Recommendation<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>LinkedIn recommendations are important. Think about it, when you are reviewing someone\u2019s qualifications, for whatever reason, reading a glowing recommendation from a peer, or manager, or business associate will probably reflect well on them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Want to get more people to write LinkedIn recommendations for you? Write one for them first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reach out to people whose work you know and for whom you can write a paragraph or two that will resonate with their target audience. Whether they\u2019re in job search or doing business with you, this a thoughtful way to support them. In addition, it\u2019s also just about the best way to prompt them to reciprocate with a strong recommendation for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And, there are two other selfish benefits to writing LinkedIn recommendations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Each recommendation that\u2019s approved and posted includes a link to your profile which, you can bet, plenty of people will click on to view and assess you.<\/li><li>This thoughtful gesture \u2013&nbsp;<em>doing something nice for someone you admire without being asked<\/em> \u2013 strengthens your network. In addition, it builds evangelists for your personal brand and candidacy.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Bottom Line<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>LinkedIn offers so many ways to help you land a great-fit new job. Go beyond the basics.
