Besides, resumes, biographies and other&nbsp;documents don\u2019t look, read, or work the way they used to either.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the advent of the digital age, job search has become a whole new ball game, requiring personal branding and online presence for social proof . . . <em>and a lot more preparation, planning, and hard work<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-color wp-block-heading\" style=\"color:#0d7b14\"><strong>What is Social Proof?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Social proof is your social media activity and any information that resides online about you. It lends credibility to the claims you\u2019ve made about yourself verbally, and in your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/megguiseppi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"LinkedIn profile (opens in a new tab)\">LinkedIn profile<\/a>, executive resume and other job search materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Social recruiting is now the norm. The vast majority of executive recruiters source and assess candidates using social media. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although LinkedIn is now, by far, the most important social network for job seekers, surveys have found one crucial mismatch \u2013 job seekers are on Facebook, while recruiters are on LinkedIn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If it\u2019s been, say, 5 or more years since you\u2019ve been job-hunting, you may think things will happen the way they did the last time you changed jobs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You dusted off your resume, looked for job openings, and reached out to recruiters. Or you were lucky enough to have a streaming pipeline of opportunities coming in from recruiters throughout your career. Or a job just fell into your lap through some connection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These things can and do still happen, but these days don\u2019t expect to slide into a new gig so easily . . . <em>especially if you\u2019re neglecting personal branding, LinkedIn and your online presence.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>And yet, all too often I hear executive job seekers say self-sabotaging things like:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>&#8220;Personal branding is not for me. I\u2019m not a brand, I\u2019m a person. And I don\u2019t like to brag about myself\u201d.<\/li><li>&#8220;I don&#8217;t want to &#8216;put myself out there\u2019 online&#8221;.<\/li><li>&#8220;I don\u2019t have time for LinkedIn or any other social network\u201d.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-color wp-block-heading\" style=\"color:#0d7b14\"><strong>3 Things About Personal Brand Social Proof You Need To Know<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. Personal Branding Is No Longer Optional<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Without personal branding \u2013 <em>which starts with <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/7-tips-to-build-your-executive-job-search-target-companies-list\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">targeting<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/best-ways-and-places-to-research-your-target-employers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">researching<\/a> specific employers<\/em> \u2013 how will you know:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>What it is about you that makes you unique and valuable?<\/li><li>How to position and present yourself?<\/li><li>What kind of content to write about yourself?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019ll end up with generic content in your resume, biography, LinkedIn profile, etc., trying to cover too many bases. Your content probably won&#8217;t resonate with anyone. And it won&#8217;t differentiate you from the competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2. Having an Online Presence Is No Longer Optional<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Most executive recruiters turn to LinkedIn first, and then other online platforms, to find and assess candidates based on what exists about them online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ignoring LinkedIn, in particular, for reputation management and personal brand-building can be career suicide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Job seekers who have a diverse, compelling online footprint are more attractive to recruiters and employers than those who have little or no presence online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those who are not visible and at least somewhat active online, may never be found by the very people they need to be smack dab in front of.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If Googling \u201ctheir name\u201d yields little to no search results, they\u2019ll likely be passed over for someone who has a vibrant, diverse online footprint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The more web pages associated with their name, the stronger their candidacy, and the stronger the likelihood they will be a person of interest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When writing content to build online presence, you must always be mindful of your <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/how-to-balance-personal-branding-with-personal-seo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">personal SEO<\/a> (Search Engine Optimization). This involves identifying and including in brand-reinforcing content the relevant keywords and phrases that will help you be found by recruiters and hiring decision makers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How do you uncover these critical personal SEO keywords and phrases? By carefully <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/executive-job-search-research-your-target-employers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"researching each company and industry (opens in a new tab)\">researching each company and industry<\/a> you&#8217;re targeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3. Personal Brand Social Proof Can Tip the Scales in The Job Seeker\u2019s Favor<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Recruiters and hiring professionals Google job seekers\u2019 names before reaching out to them. They\u2019re looking for <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/social-proof-where-online-presence-meets-personal-branding\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">social proof<\/a> to validate the claims they\u2019ve made in their resume and other career documents, and to corroborate their personal brand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They want to verify that candidates&nbsp;are who they say they are, and to learn more about them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When people post information about themselves online, they\u2019re less likely to stretch the truth.
