{"id":612,"date":"2010-01-22T05:59:23","date_gmt":"2010-01-22T10:59:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/?p=612"},"modified":"2023-10-02T13:10:43","modified_gmt":"2023-10-02T17:10:43","slug":"how-green-is-your-job-search","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/how-green-is-your-job-search\/","title":{"rendered":"How Green is Your Job Search?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Do you feel the need to print out every job description that interests you or every piece of job search information or every email you receive?<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u201cThink before you print.\u201d<\/em><\/strong> You&#8217;re probably\u00a0seeing this notice more often at the bottom of environmentally-conscious emailers&#8217; messages.<\/p>\n<p>I was talking with a friend the other day who said he HAS to print out every email or it isn&#8217;t real to him. He needs to be able to touch it. And he can&#8217;t get a handle on organizing all those communications unless they&#8217;re in a pile in front of him.<\/p>\n<p>When creating resumes, biograhies, and other documents, I used to print each one of the many revised versions it always takes me to get a document just right (I&#8217;m a perfectionist) &#8211; sometimes 20 or more copies for one client! I&#8217;ve cut that down to only one or two, and reuse paper by printing on both sides.<\/p>\n<p>Consequently, I can&#8217;t remember the last time I had to haul out and empty my office paper recycle box. And of course, I&#8217;m buying fewer reams of paper.<\/p>\n<p>Although I&#8217;m still someone who has to do my pleasure reading from an actual hard-copy book (Kindle is not for me), I&#8217;ve weaned myself off of needing paper copies for most of my work. I&#8217;ve gotten used to bookmarking websites and creating an organized digital filing system to keep track of information when I&#8217;m researching topics to blog about, so I don&#8217;t have to print dozens of pages.<\/p>\n<p>PlanetGreen has an article on the <a href=\"http:\/\/planetgreen.discovery.com\/go-green\/green-work\/green-work-tips.html\">Top 10 Tips for Going Green at Work<\/a>, some of which also applies to home work spaces.<\/p>\n<p>It may take a little getting used to, but if you just ponder for a moment whether you really need to print something out, you may find it&#8217;s actually more convenient to store it online. It may be easier to find and access an online file than a hard copy.
