And people investigating candidates are no different. If they can uncover information about you that will help them make an informed decision and eliminate risk, they\u2019ll take the bait. It makes their lives easier.&#8221;<\/strong><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Having a fully fleshed out LinkedIn profile with plenty of content and activity is a must. If you have an anemic, bare-bones profile, you&#8217;re not providing much information at all. You appear to be out of date with the digital age.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But LinkedIn isn&#8217;t enough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Building online presence requires more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Typically, candidates who have a more robust online footprint \u2013 more search results for &#8220;their name&#8221; \u2013 are more attractive to hiring professionals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Do You Know What Your Online Presence Looks Like?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Google \u201cyour name\u201d right now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whatever you find is probably what others will find when they\u2019re assessing you. However, keep in mind that search results can vary from one location to another, and one computer to another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Self-Google about once a week to monitor your search results for digital dirt. Sabotaging information can appear in an instant, even if you\u2019ve done nothing wrong. The sooner you know about it, the sooner you can take steps to delete it, or supplant and bury the bad results with good ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are many ways to <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/10-best-ways-to-build-your-personal-brand-online\/\">build your online presence<\/a>. One of the best ways to fill the social proof gap holding back most executive job seekers is to build a personal website\/blogsite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s best to set up your site as a blog, instead of a static website. These typically only have a few pages \u2013 About\/Bio, Resume\/Experience, Specialties\/Services, Portfolio\/Projects, Testimonials\/Accolades, Contact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You&#8217;ll need those basic web pages, but also get into the habit of writing posts regularly, say at least a few times a month. Hiring professionals are looking for personal qualities that aren\u2019t easily evident on a resume.&#8221;<\/strong><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>With the digital age playing a major role in <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/16-ways-to-stay-motivated-in-executive-job-search\/\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"517\">executive job search<\/a> for at least the past 10 years, every job seeker should by now understand that a great resume alone will not likely get you into that great-fit job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/whats-the-best-executive-resume-format-and-length\/\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"824\">Resumes come with restraints in length<\/a> and content, and don\u2019t do the best job in showcasing personality and generating chemistry . . . <em>two big bonuses in personal brandin<\/em>g.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a seasoned <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/is-the-executive-resume-dead-or-dying\/\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"98\">executive resume<\/a> writer, I do get these essentials into my clients\u2019 documents, but there\u2019s just so much I can do, given the limitations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A personal website or blogsite allows for limitless content to support and build your personal brand, and demonstrate your subject matter expertise and thought leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each web page and\/or blog post on your website represents a search result for your name. More pages = more search results = a stronger online presence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Think of it this way . . .<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Successful job search strategy is much the same as running a business.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Both require targeting, researching that target market, and a marketing strategy that addresses pain points, humanizes the provider, and positions their unique problem-solving expertise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For instance, let&#8217;s say you&#8217;re sourcing a professional to advise you, or do work on your house, or sell your house, or whatever your need may be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Who are you more likely to take the time to contact and probably hire?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A company or provider you&#8217;ve seen listed somewhere, but all you have is their name and number?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Or . . . <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Someone who has a website with plenty of information about what they offer, how they work, who they are, who they work with, testimonials, a blog with helpful advice, etc.?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>10 Elements of a High-Quality Blogsite\/Website<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In her post, Hannah offered tips on creating a high quality website, for building online presence and boosting visitors&#8217; perception of you as a candidate. The source is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.quicksprout.com\/2014\/12\/12\/the-10-key-elements-of-a-high-quality-website\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">Quick Sprout<\/a>, a site that helps grow website traffic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Relevance &amp; Context<\/strong> \u2013 Both humans and computers need to understand what\u2019s on the page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Content Length<\/strong> \u2013 Top websites have 900+ words per page<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Images &amp; Video<\/strong> \u2013 Pages with images are more engaging<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Grammar &amp; Spelling<\/strong> \u2013 There\u2019s no excuse for errors. It hurts your credibility<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Readability<\/strong> \u2013 The easier to read the better. Shorter sentences and eliminate adjectives\/fluff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Formatting<\/strong> \u2013 Scannable page with good headers to break up content<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Expertise<\/strong> \u2013 Shows your expertise\/authority on the subject<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Social Media Shares<\/strong> \u2013 Make your content easy to share and help increase search rankings<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Google Internal &amp; External Links<\/strong> \u2013 Link to content on your own site and to other valuable sites<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Quality of Comments<\/strong> \u2013 Good comments help build authority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Purchase a domain for your name, or a relevant variation, and build out your site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you get your blogsite up and running \u2013 <em>with several pages and posts published<\/em> \u2013 get busy leveraging social media to support your candidacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>5 Tips To Promote Your Website \u2013 and Your Personal Brand \u2013 on Social Media<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>1. Each time you publish a new blog post \u2013 tweet it, post it on Facebook and your other social media accounts, share it as an update on your LinkedIn profile, and start a conversation with it on your relevant LinkedIn Groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2. Repeat the above exercise about once a week, with each of your blog posts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3. Re-purpose your blog posts, and publish them on <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/the-value-of-blogging-your-personal-brand-on-linkedin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">LinkedIn\u2019s publishing platform (sometimes called Pulse)<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4. Write comments on posts on other relevant blogs, that will link back to your site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>5.
