Ageism<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>First, accept that ageism exists and give up the notion that you can hide your age.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even if you haven&#8217;t worked on building your <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/strong-online-presence-to-compete\/\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"189\">online presence<\/a>, personal information about you probably exists online on the many aggregator sites. A quick Google search of &#8220;your name&#8221; will probably reveal your age.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But don\u2019t despair. There are plenty of employers out there that respect and seek seasoned candidates with the wisdom that only comes from years of overcoming the tough business challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One aspect of ageism you can conquer is dispelling the concern that you&#8217;re out of date with the new world of work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As much as possible, keep pace with your younger competitors. They are social media savvy, active on various social networks, and have built a strong online presence. You need to do the same.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Align your LinkedIn profile with your resume focus.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Optimize and fully populate all applicable profile sections to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/how-to-balance-personal-branding-with-personal-seo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">boost your personal SEO<\/a>&nbsp;with plenty of relevant keywords.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Get busy&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/linkedin-personal-branding-executive-job-search\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">leveraging all that LinkedIn has to offer<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Expand your online footprint with diverse search results. This boosts your&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/social-proof-where-online-presence-meets-personal-branding\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">social proof<\/a>&nbsp;and helps you&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/strong-online-presence-to-compete\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">get found online<\/a>. Employment Gaps<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Ever since the pandemic, employers have been less concerned about employment gaps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even so, some executive recruiters and others assessing you through your <a aria-label=\"LinkedIn profile (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/megguiseppi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">LinkedIn profile<\/a> and executive resume may still red-flag you if you have long stretches of time unaccounted for. ATS and Your Executive Resume<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Do you know about the potential resume black hole \u2013 Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS)?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ATS were developed to deal with the overwhelming number of resumes <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/how-to-get-executive-recruiters-attention-with-the-right-email-messages\/\">executive recruiters<\/a> and employers receive these days for openings posted on job boards and company websites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/how-to-find-executive-recruiters-specializing-in-your-niche\/\">job seekers need executive recruiters<\/a> and job boards to get a job, right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To some extent, but not entirely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recruiters are a source for executive jobs, but you can\u2019t heavily rely on them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And <a data-wpil-monitor-id=\"190\" href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/use-job-boards-for-research-not-to-find-jobs\/\">job boards<\/a> can yield disappointing results. Your best-fit job may never be advertised anywhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Therefore, I recommend that you don&#8217;t devote all (or even most) of your job search time to these two methods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead, supplement those efforts with purposeful networking. Undercover Executive Job Search<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you&#8217;re like most of the clients I work with, you&#8217;re employed, but looking to move on for various reasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You probably can&#8217;t risk broadcasting that you&#8217;re actively seeking opportunities . . . <em>on LinkedIn . . . or anywhere online . . . or to too many people<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But, you\u2019ll probably need to add to, or change, the content in your LinkedIn profile to position yourself as a good-fit candidate for your target employers.
