Their executive resume may be sabotaging their efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They\u2019re hard at work sending out their resumes to anyone and any place that may be able to help them with their career goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But somehow, their resumes are not doing their job \u2013 <em>generating interest and interviews.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There could be many <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/10-reasons-your-executive-resume-needs-a-major-facelift\/\">reasons why your resume<\/a> isn\u2019t working for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are 5 of them, <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/the-biggest-executive-resume-writing-mistake\/\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"527\">starting with two content writing mistakes that<\/a> can derail your resume. . . before you even send it out:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>5 Reasons Why Your Executive Resume Isn&#8217;t Working<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. You\u2019re spending the majority of your time sending your resume in response to job listings on job boards and company websites.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Did you know that only a small percentage of executive jobs, especially at the top levels, are landed through job boards?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Why would you spend the vast majority of your time on a method that yields such dismal results?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My advice? Don\u2019t ignore <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/toxic-executive-job-search-beliefs-hit-job-boards-hard\/\">job boards<\/a> entirely. Your executive resume is getting lost in Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS).<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This mistake goes hand-in-hand with the one above. When you respond to job board postings, your resume lands in a database, with all the other applicants, only to be called up if it contains enough of the right keywords.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ATS can be flawed and there are something like 200 different ATS. The software can even overlook the absolute best fit candidates, if those people didn\u2019t know <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/whats-the-best-executive-resume-format-and-length\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">how to structure and build an ATS-friendly resume<\/a> that sails through the system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>How to avoid this dilemma?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Circumvent ATS for as long as possible in the search process. Your resume is fine. It&#8217;s&nbsp;your online presence that&#8217;s stabbing you in the back.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>What if <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/the-worlds-best-executive-resume-is-not-enough\/\">you&#8217;ve done everything right<\/a>, but still nothing is happening when you send out your resume?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Try this. <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/why-you-need-to-self-google-once-a-week\/\">Google &#8220;<em>your name<\/em>&#8221; right now<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What do the search results look like?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is what people assessing you are doing. They\u2019re looking to find more information about you, once you send them your resume, or otherwise become a candidate of interest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If they find very little of substance, they\u2019re going to wonder whether you\u2019re in touch with the new world of work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If they find<a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/personal-seo-in-executive-job-search-whats-in-a-name\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> digital dirt<\/a>, you\u2019ll probably be ruled out immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Things happen in a heartbeat online.
