Having a complete profile we know is important. Let\u2019s go through some of those features. There\u2019s some sections that aren\u2019t used very often. What comes to mind are organizations, or honors and awards. How can using a section like that help someone?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Meg:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>One thing we haven\u2019t really touched on is <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/how-search-engine-optimization-seo-impacts-executive-job-search\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Search Engine Optimization<\/a>, which is all about using the <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/deadly-linkedin-mistake-neglecting-seo-and-keywords\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">right keywords and keyword phrases<\/a> \u2013 and plenty of them \u2013 in your profile to help boost your search engine ranking with LinkedIn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When people search those particular relevant keywords and phrases on <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/how-many-linkedin-connections-are-good-for-executive-job-search\/\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"715\">LinkedIn<\/a>, if your rankings are higher, then your profile is going to land higher in those search results, which means more people will see your profile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Using those extra sections \u2013 organizations, honors, awards, and others \u2013 gives you an opportunity to get more of those relevant keywords into your profile, so that makes you more findable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Mac:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>What do you say to listeners who might think, \u201c<em>Gosh, if I fill out every section it\u2019s going to be very long. Employers may not be interested in that. It might seem too self-promotional<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Meg:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s not a good way to think. If they don\u2019t want to read the whole thing, they won\u2019t read it all. But your profile will be there working passively for you, helping you with Search Engine Optimization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/deadly-linkedin-mistake-anemic-incomplete-profile\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">More content means more keywords<\/a> and better visibility and findability. It just makes sense to fill out your profile with as much content as you can. Pack it with those relevant keywords so that LinkedIn is working for you passively, beyond the proactive way you need to be using the many features LinkedIn has to offer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Mac:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s talk about publishing. Say you\u2019ve filled out the profile and you\u2019ve thought strategically about the employers and managers you want to reach. And you\u2019ve used the right keywords that are going to get you in front of those folks, what are your best tips about publishing, taking advantage of LinkedIn\u2019s publishing features?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Meg:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes, the Pulse Publishing Platform, which I still find many people are unaware of. It\u2019s a very powerful tool to use and, in effect, it\u2019s like having your own blog or blog site, but without the hassles you\u2019ll have maintaining a blog site of your own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Pulse, you publish articles about your areas of expertise, which helps to position your subject matter expertise and thought leadership, and gives people more information about you. That\u2019s only going to help you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>People are searching online once you become someone of interest to them. They\u2019ll be searching your name, looking for information about you, and the more information they find, the stronger your online presence, and the more valuable it makes you appear to be as a candidate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The other thing about using Pulse and LinkedIn\u2019s other publishing opportunities \u2013 posting updates, <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/showcase-your-personal-brand-with-linkedin-comments\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">commenting on other peoples Pulse articles and updates<\/a>, etc. \u2013 is that they <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/4-linkedin-ways-to-keep-your-personal-brand-top-of-mind\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">keep you top-of-mind with your network<\/a>, which is an important part of job search strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Remind people of the value you offer and what your brand is all about. When leads and opportunities come their way, they\u2019ll think of you and hopefully connect you with that opportunity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These LinkedIn publishing opportunities are a gentle way to stay top-of-mind, as opposed to reaching out to people one-on-one and networking with them. These are things you need to be doing too, but which introverts and others may have a difficult time doing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-color wp-block-heading\" style=\"color:#0d7b14\"><strong>4 LinkedIn Personal Branding Secrets<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are first 2 typical mistakes I see people making on LinkedIn, and then 2 issues they don&#8217;t always know how to deal with. You&#8217;ll find links to more information about each one:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1.
