Their resume brand suffers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They use wimpy words like\u00a0&#8220;Responsible for&#8221; and &#8220;Managed&#8221; in their LinkedIn profiles and executive resumes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If your contributions have been high-impact and greatly benefited your employers, shouldn&#8217;t the verbs you use to describe them fit the achievement?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019re not boring. The content supporting your candidacy shouldn\u2019t be either. Don&#8217;t be <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/some-c-level-executives-fear-authentic-personal-branding\/\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"449\">afraid to get your personality<\/a> in there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-black-color has-text-color\">Elevate Your Resume Brand with Vibrant Writing<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/how-to-build-personal-brand-content-for-executive-job-search\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Writing vibrant content for your job search<\/a> personal marketing materials can elevate your candidacy and position your brand above the rest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After all, personal branding is all about differentiating your unique value. Because you&#8217;ve <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/the-new-10-step-executive-personal-branding-worksheet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">defined and embraced your brand<\/a>, &#8220;sameness&#8221; is not driving your job search. One of the ways to stand out is by using powerful language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Strong action verbs generate chemistry and better showcase the value you offer. They help inject personality into what is often dull reading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And strong verbs are more specific than generic ones like &#8220;managed&#8221;. Being as specific as possible in your resume will help differentiate you from others who rely on anemic words like &#8220;managed&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a writer, I&#8217;m always looking for better words when I\u2019m writing LinkedIn profiles, <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/whats-the-best-executive-resume-format-and-length\/\">executive resumes<\/a>, biographies, etc. I often turn to thesaurus.com, but many times it doesn&#8217;t hit the mark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Here&#8217;s a boatload of strong verbs to support your resume brand<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>I came across an excellent post on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.themuse.com\/advice\/185-powerful-verbs-that-will-make-your-resume-awesome\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Muse<\/a> that lays out 185 powerful verbs to more precisely express things you did. You\u2019ll find many lists of <a data-wpil-monitor-id=\"450\" href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/10-brand-diluting-phrases-that-can-ruin-your-executive-resume\/\">verbs online<\/a>, but this is the best one I&#8217;ve seen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They&#8217;ve broken down all those juicy verbs into various categories, related to the kinds of contributions you&#8217;ve made. Then they provide lists of verbs that can be used to draw out specifics for each category.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Do any of these categories apply to you? You:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>led a project<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>envisioned and brought a project to life<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>saved the company time or money<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>increased efficiency, sales, revenue or customer satisfaction<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>changed or improved something<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>managed a team<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>brought in partners, funding or resources<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>supported customers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>were a research machine<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>wrote or communicated<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>oversaw or regulated<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>achieved something<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Here&#8217;s a sampling, from the category &#8220;<em>You changed or improved something<\/em>&#8220;:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Centralized<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Clarified<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Converted<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Customized<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Influenced<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Integrated<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Merged<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Modified<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Overhauled<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Redesigned<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Refined<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Refocused<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rehabilitated<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Remodeled<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reorganized<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Replaced<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Restructured<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Revamped<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Revitalized<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Simplified<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Standardized<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Streamlined<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Strengthened<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Updated<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Upgraded<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Transformed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Along with the sheer number of verbs, the thing that impresses me about this list is that, for the most part, the verbs are not fussy or overly-cerebral. These are words most people use regularly in conversation, so they won&#8217;t sound out of place for most people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Creating a vibrant executive resume and LinkedIn profile takes more than strong writing<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Writing <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/find-the-best-executive-resume-writer-for-you-where-and-how-to-search\/\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"407\">resumes and LinkedIn profile<\/a> content is not easy. Strategy and positioning are involved, beyond strong writing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>You may not be able to <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/7-things-i-learned-about-resume-writing-that-changed-everything\/\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"536\">write your own resume.<\/a> Typically, executives make these 4 big mistakes:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Failing to <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/does-your-executive-resume-position-you-as-the-best-hiring-choice\/\">position themselves as the best hiring choice<\/a> for their target employers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Lack of personal branding (or personality) in the content.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Failing to capture attention above the fold.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sacrificing readability to keep their <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/c-level-executive-resume-length-one-two-or-three-pages\/\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"624\">resume to 2 pages<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>But some <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/what-is-the-perfect-executive-resume\/\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"570\">executives can write their own resume<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/worksheets-personal-branding-and-executive-job-search\/\">My personal branding and executive job search worksheets<\/a> are a great way to start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Personal branding is no longer optional. <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In a nutshell, branding showcases your unique combination of personal attributes, driving strengths and skill sets that make you a good-fit candidate for the employers you want to work for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Strong personal branding is wrapped up in a crystal clear message that differentiates you from your competition and resonates with your target audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The things that differentiate your unique promise of value to specific employers is what will sell you to those employers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Companies are looking for vitality, good fit, and personal chemistry in executive candidates.
