Here are 7 very important things too many people DO NOT do on LinkedIn, but should.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Include a contact email and\/or phone number, and make it easy to find.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I often go to someone&#8217;s LinkedIn profile to find their contact information when I needed to get in touch with them. All too often, they haven&#8217;t added any contact information, so I&#8217;m left empty-handed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some people do add their contact info to their profile, but they bury it in hard-to-find places, like the About section.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The best place is the most obvious one \u2013 in the \u201cContact info&#8221; spot that sits under your name and profile headline, in the introduction section at the very top of your profile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eyes are drawn to the top of the web page first, so naturally people will be able to find your contact info immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Be mindful of SEO (Search Engine Optimization), especially in your profile headline.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS)<\/a> used by recruiters and employers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To help people assessing you understand and differentiate the value you offer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What are keywords?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Keywords are the words and phrases that people will search online to find people like you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In particular, recruiters and hiring managers routinely search various phrases to identify and then assess potential hires for their client companies, such as <em>\u201cInformation Technology Executive, Enterprise Business Systems\u201d<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Working from this understanding, you need to determine which are the right keywords for your particular job search.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then you need to place those keywords in the right places in your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/megguiseppi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">LinkedIn profile<\/a> and all of your other job search materials \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/what-is-the-perfect-executive-resume\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">resume<\/a>, <a name<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Headline \u2013 customize this instead of keeping the default headline, which is your most recent job title<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Job titles \u2013 expand on your actual title by adding more keywords<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Why do you need to <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/linkedin-personal-branding-executive-job-search\/\" target=\"_blank\" Balance your SEO-driven content with personal brand-reinforcing content.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You need to go beyond strategically placing relevant keywords in your profile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If your profile mostly contains keywords that represent your hard skills, it may suffer from sameness. Don\u2019t hide critical information from people\u2019s view.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You may want to jig particular things to your own liking, so spend a little time looking around. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For instance, under &#8220;Privacy&#8221;, consider adjusting &#8220;Profile viewing options&#8221;. If you&#8217;re actively viewing profiles of others, but you don&#8217;t want them to know it (for whatever reason), choose &#8220;Private mode&#8221; here. You can switch back and forth as needed, when you are and are not viewing other profiles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Here&#8217;s one setting you should definitely look at<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Make sure you&#8217;ve toggled to &#8220;On&#8221; for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/help\/linkedin\/answer\/a1358878\/\">two-step verification<\/a> when you first log on to LinkedIn. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How does two-step verification work?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When LinkedIn does not recognize the device that you&#8217;re attempting to sign in from, you&#8217;ll be asked to enter your account password as the first layer of verification and a pin code as the second layer of verification. The pin code will be sent to your phone via SMS or authenticator app, depending on the two-step verification method you selected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Why should you do this?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To keep your account from being hacked, which has happened to me. It&#8217;s a hassle you don&#8217;t want to be hit with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How to turn on two-step verification:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Click on &#8220;Sign in &amp; security&#8221; in Settings &amp; Privacy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click on &#8220;Two-step verification&#8221; in the list.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Toggle to &#8220;On&#8221;.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>LinkedIn frequently changes things in Settings &amp; Privacy, so get in the habit of revisiting these pages often.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. Don&#8217;t follow the crowd and send the default invitation to connect. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The very fact that you take a few moments to compose a brief, personalized invitation will make you stand out. Share updates regularly and support other people&#8217;s posts.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A powerful tool that most people don&#8217;t use on LinkedIn is the ability to &#8220;share (or post) updates&#8221;. You&#8217;ve probably seen other people&#8217;s updates in your LinkedIn stream when you first log on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Take a look at those updates to get ideas for your own updates. Click on &#8220;Home&#8221; in the menu at the top of your profile and fill in your update where it says (as of this writing) &#8220;Start a post&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A few things <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/12-ways-to-build-personal-brand-evangelism\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">you should do to help boost brand evangelism<\/a> and keep your brand top-of-mind:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Tag people<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Include hashtags<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Include a <a href=\"https:\/\/xi117.isrefer.com\/go\/jobsearch\/ecbrand\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">video<\/a> or other visual<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Control who sees your updates<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>More in my post, <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/smart-personal-branding-posting-linkedin-updates-vs-updating-your-linkedin-profile\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Smart Personal Branding: Posting LinkedIn Updates vs Updating Your LinkedIn Profile<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Another important thing to do regarding updates:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Combine your posting activities with supporting others\u2019 updates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For other people&#8217;s posts:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Liking&#8221; (or otherwise reacting to) their updates is okay (and better than doing nothing), but &#8220;Commenting&#8221; and &#8220;Sharing&#8221; them is much better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Actually <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/showcase-your-personal-brand-with-linkedin-comments\/\">contributing a compelling comment<\/a> on someone else\u2019s update gives you an opportunity to demonstrate your subject matter expertise and thought leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And, taking the time to compose a meaty comment helps build brand evangelism for you. It makes people very happy. They\u2019ll be more likely to comment on, or share, your updates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">7.
