Too many executive job seekers think all they have to do is connect with several recruiters, sit back, and let them do the work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It would be great if it were that easy . . . but it\u2019s not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They forget, or don\u2019t understand, that along with working with recruiters, they need to work hard on networking, which will open them to the so-called \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/how-to-network-into-the-goldmine-of-hidden-executive-jobs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hidden\u201d job market<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These are the jobs that are never advertised . . . or jobs that are carved out to accommodate a potentially valuable candidate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More opportunities will come to those who network their way into companies, which starts with working on <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/worksheets-personal-branding-and-executive-job-search\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">personal branding, and targeting and research<\/a> to identify employers who will be a mutual good fit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"\"><span style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">IMPORTANT: Before you move ahead with my list below, do these things:<\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u21d2 Optimize your entire LinkedIn profile with the right keywords, to help recruiters find you.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/why-the-right-executive-recruiters-ignore-your-linkedin-profile-and-you\/\">Executive recruiters and other hiring professionals source candidates by searching LinkedIn<\/a> (and other search engines) using relevant keywords.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019ll uncover <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/keywords-in-job-search-how-important-are-they\/\">the right keywords<\/a> for you in your target companies and industry research. These keywords typically represent your top areas of expertise or hard skills that your <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/executive-job-search-research-your-target-employers\/\">target employers<\/a> most need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pay particular attention to packing your <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/how-to-make-your-branded-linkedin-profile-professional-headline-seo-friendly\/\">profile headline<\/a> with your very most important keywords.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u21d2 Get your executive resume in order<\/strong><strong>.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"><strong>Update it . . . Target it . . . Re-connect with the executive recruiters you&#8217;ve used in the past.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>See if they\u2019re still around and if they\u2019re still a good fit for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My clients often tell me they had good luck with certain recruiters or recruiting firms. But they\u2019ve lost contact with them over the years they were employed. I suggest they send these recruiters a brief email to re-introduce themselves, mentioning they\u2019ve worked together in the past.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2. Ask your network(s) for recommendations.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Your closest network of people may be the best resource for <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/top-10-executive-job-search-posts-from-2015\/\">all things job search and career<\/a>. They\u2019ve probably had similar experiences, and can offer support and advice. Same goes for recruiter recommendations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have in your network various <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/find-the-best-executive-resume-writer-for-you-wheres-the-value\/\">careers industry\/job search professionals<\/a>, seek out their advice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3. Search LinkedIn for executive recruiters.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>LinkedIn is a haven for recruiters. They\u2019re busy networking there, <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/smart-personal-branding-posting-linkedin-updates-vs-updating-your-linkedin-profile\/\">posting updates<\/a>, and sourcing and assessing candidates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here&#8217;s how to find recruiters on LinkedIn, as of this writing (LinkedIn tends to move things around often, so you may have to look elsewhere on the site to access this):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Place your cursor in the search field at the top of your profile. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Type in &#8220;recruiter&#8221; and click on &#8220;recruiter&#8221; in &#8220;People&#8221; in the drop-down.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A second menu appears below the search field. Click on &#8220;All Filters&#8221;.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Narrow your search by ticking off filters (Location, etc.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Scroll down to &#8220;Industry&#8221; and tick off &#8220;Staffing and Recruiting&#8221;.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click on &#8220;Show results&#8221; at the bottom of the page and a list appears.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Take a deeper dive with my post, <a href=\"https:\/\/executivecareerbrand.com\/how-to-find-and-connect-with-the-right-recruiters-on-linkedin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">How to Find and Connect with the RIGHT Recruiters on LinkedIn<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>4. Check your trade or industry associations for referrals.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Your network of colleagues and other professionals in your industry you\u2019ve met through associations are an excellent resource for recruiters and other career professionals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>5. Check out Forbes &#8220;Best Executive Recruiting Firms&#8221; for a list of the big firms.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Updated each year, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/best-executive-recruiting-firms\/list\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this list includes the giants<\/a> like Korn Ferry, Egon Zehnder and Heidrick &amp; Struggles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>6. Check out these various Kindle guides.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You&#8217;ll find dozens of directories of executive search firms and recruiters by position, industry, some states and some cities at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.customdatabanks.com\/ebook-samples\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CustomDataBanks<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each directory seems to be around $10.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>7.
